2/3/2017 3 Internship Placement Tracking (IPT)

IPT Tutorial – Note IPT is separate platform from any SDSU accounts, like Blackboard or Web-Portal

  • Intern Placement Tracking (IPT) system – is a web-

enabled database to handle many functions of the field program that used to be done on paper

  • Please review the tutorial
  • Upload your photo and complete CSWE Stats
  • You should have received your user name – log in

information - sent to you via email on Monday 15th Feb.

  • DEMO OF IPT IPT log in
  • https://www.alceasoftware.com/web/login.php

IPT Getting Started

  • Your account information & password will be sent to you by

email – once your IPT account has been set up. We need your accurate, typed IPT Face Sheet hard copy turned in to SW Office

  • IPT website is located at

https://www.alceasoftware.com/web/login.php. Please bookmark this page for easy reference.

  • There are three fields required for login: organization ID, user

name, password. All information entered in these fields is upper/lower case sensitive.

  • The Organization ID for anyone using the SDSU IPT system is:

sdsu

  • The School of Social Work will supply all students with a unique

default user name & password. If you did not receive this information please contact Maria: swfield@mail.sdsu.edu

Next steps: Referral & Interview Process

  • Expect an email from field faculty, with a referral

to set up an interview any time after March 6th – March 30th

  • Be prepared for a professional interview
  • Be mindful of dress, phone & email etiquette
  • Some employers / agencies search Social Media

accounts

  • Be as flexible as possible when scheduling the

interview

  • Be ready to email your resume prior to interview

Anticipate Live Scan / Health Screenings

  • Most agencies will also have Live Scan and

various other background screenings after initial offer (offer is contingent on passing these additional steps)

  • Immunizations, drug screen etc.
  • Some agencies pay for these – many do

not

  • Be aware that you may have to pay for

additional screenings

Student Must Pass Additional Steps

  • Agency field instructor will notify SDSU if you have been
  • ffered the internship
  • Background and health screenings come after
  • Be aware that your internship is not considered final and

confirmed until you have passed additional screenings

  • If you have any criminal background issues
  • Please disclose on your field application
  • Disclose when sent to HR or to field instructor after being
  • ffered the internship
  • Full disclose recommended – students get in trouble

when they do not disclose and issues are exposed during Live Scan

Additional Policies: FAQ’s – Evening or week end hours at internship?

  • Internship Schedule of 16 hours a

week will be during business hours - week days – Monday to Friday

  • We do not have any agencies with

exclusively evening and week end hours

evening or week end hours

2/3/2017 4 FAQ Intern at Employment site?

  • Can I intern at my employment site?
  • Answer: “It depends”
  • Various criteria need to be met and approved by agency

supervisor and school of social work field director

  • There is an additional application to complete
  • Ex. Agency must have MSW on site to supervise you
  • Field instructor / supervisor is different person than your

immediate work supervisor

  • Agency is able to meet school of social work curriculum

requirements

  • Has an existing contract with SDSU as an approved site

(you can check in IPT)

INTERNSHIP AT EMPLOYMENT?

  • CSWE allows this option for one of the two years of field

practicum only & under strict guide lines

  • MSW I or II (650/750/755) Application Form for Internship at

Employment Site

  • The agency must meet criteria for SSW guidelines, employer

must be willing to support student – there must be a clear division of student and employee responsibilities and different individual who is the MSW field instructor vs. employer supervisor (SEE APPLICATION FOR FULL DETAILS)

  • All internships at employment site must be reviewed and

approved by the Director of Field Education – if you are thinking about this option – check out the application form & schedule appointment with Candy Elson. Employment application later, March 1st.

  • You MUST also complete a SW 650 Field Application via IPT

in case internship at employment site does not work out

Policies and FAQ’s continued

  • i.e. please let us know if we unintentionally refer you to an

agency where you or a family member has been a client

  • r employee in the recent past
  • Please do not approach or recruit agencies on your own
  • Can I recruit an agency I’m interested in?
  • We cannot recruit specific agencies for specific students –
