  2. GC GCSE Fie ield ld Stud udy y - Why y are re we g e goi oing? ng? It is a requirement of the new 9-1 GCSE Specification that “learners should experience working in contrasting environments outside of the classroom and school grounds. They should have the opportunity to explore physical and human processes and the interactions between them during their fieldwork experiences” . 30% of the final GCSE grade comes from the ‘ Applied Fieldwork Enquiry’ examination which will be the final of three Geography exams next year. This exam is in three parts. • Part A will assess approaches to fieldwork methodology, representation and analysis. • Part B will assess how fieldwork enquiry may be used to investigate geography's conceptual frameworks. • Part C will assess the application of broad geographical concepts to a wider UK context and assess the ability to make and justify a decision.

  8. GC GCSE Fie ield ld Stud udy y – Expec pectatio tations. ns. This is not a holiday or sightseeing tour – it will not be an easy ride. We will be working until 6pm each day, stopping for dinner and then working again into the evening. Evening activities end at 9pm and this will be followed by a small amount of free time before lights out at 10.30pm. Colleagues who went on the same trip last year described the experience as “ attritional but ultimately rewarding” . Field studies are what makes Geography genuinely unique, and create memories that stay with you for life.

  9. Ad Addit itional ional ac activ tiviti ities es In order to ensure all students are occupied during free time, there will be a number of activities that they can take part in. These will include: Bouldering Archery Nightline

  10. GC GCSE E Fie ield ld Stud udy y - Jou ourn rney y The journey time is just over 3 hours and therefore we will stop en route. There is no service station as such on the A47/A148 but we have identified a McDonalds just outside King’s Lynn that will double as a toilet stop and opportunity for lunch. I appreciate that McDonalds will not be to everybody’s taste, so a packed lunch will be needed if this is the case. We will be stopping in the same place on the return journey (the field study centre will provide lunch for pupils on Sunday). Water only on the coach please, and due to the lack of services, the less liquid the better. Copious amounts of sweets, 66 students, one coach and the resulting three hour sugar rush is not a great experience! The less the better … There is no need to provide food for the duration of the weekend, lunch and dinner will be provided as and when needed. A nu numb mber er of of stude students nts ha have se seri rious ous al allerg ergies ies – it it is is es esse sential ntial th that at an any food ood tak taken en by by our pupils does not contai tain nuts ts.
