Bioassessment 2019 Expanded Dissolved Oxygen Monitoring

  • 1. Sampling can occur when we have warm/hot conditions with no

rain in previous 48 hours and have relatively low flow conditions

  • 2. 4-5 day deployment of DO meters at 7-14 sites based on weather
  • 3. Benthic chlorophyll a samples will be collected
  • 4. 2 rounds of expanded nutrient sampling will occur while DO probes

are deployed

  • 5. Samples will be analyzed by First Environmental Labs in Naperville

due to shortened hold times for samples

  • 6. This will be completed with a combination of MBI and TCF staff

for Fecal Coliform

  • 3. Sampling will begin in late May/early June
  • 4. ETP Labs in Willowbrook will be used due to short hold times

Biodiversity staff with a boat and from bridges where available

  • MBI staff will coordinate with Microbac staff to pick-up samples
  • Microbac will perform analysis for regular chemistry collections
  • First Environmental Labs will analyze expanded nutrient parameters
  • ETP Labs will analyze Fecal Coliform
  • Approval needed for staff to negotiate contracts with all three labs up

to a total of $78,000

Native Trees for Your Environment:

  • Learn about our native tree species and the benefits they

carry when incorporated into the landscape. Factors to consider when choosing a tree, examples to consider and where to buy your native trees are covered.

Native Plants 101:

  • What is a native plant and how do they differ from invasive

species? Learn how natives are beneficial to the landscape, which are best to incorporate to your landscape at home, and where to buy native plants locally.

Adding Natives to the Landscape:

  • Learn how to plan a native garden, prepare your garden bed
  • r tree planting, and maintain the addition of native plants

and trees in your landscape. The benefits of incorporating natives to home landscapes are also highlighted.
