USPTA Pro Teaching Tips (Ray Yost)

16

— Stay Out Of No Man’s Land — No Man's Land - the area between the

service line and base line.

— ** About 20% of the points lost in a 3.0

  • r 3.5 match are when a player or team

gets caught in this area.

— ** 4.0 players don't get caught much in

No Man's Land as they are usually coming to net.

slide-17
SLIDE 17

Stay Out of No Man’s Land (Ray Yost)

17

— ** Ways points are lost: — > Hitting balls in the air that are going out. — > Getting caught inside the base line by a foot or

two on a deep return after serving. ( The need to keep the court in front of you)

— > Going back to get a lob and then after returning

it, standing in No Mans Land.

— > Hitting a service return and then ( since most

services draw a player into no mans land to return) staying in the spot where one hit the serve return.

slide-18
SLIDE 18

Stay Out of No Man’s Land (Ray Yost)

18

— ** Ways points are lost (continued): — > Just generally playing in no man's land, due to

lack of net experience, not able to hit overheads, not able to close on floating shots.

— > When your partner is serving, standing behind

the service line.

— > When your partner is returning, standing

behind the service line.

slide-19
SLIDE 19

Stay Out of No Man’s Land (Ray Yost)

19

— The difficulty of hitting a ball on the rise ( when it

has the most speed and spin).

— ** One then ends up not able to use a proper stroke

so they, push, slap or punch the ball over the net.

— ** If partner is at net, not sure what shots your

partner can get, so getting caught in no mans land to get a lob.

— ** Can't move real well - so almost forced to play in

NO MAN'S LAND

slide-20
SLIDE 20

Stay Out of No Man’s Land (Ray Yost)

20

— SO GET OUT OF NO MAN'S

LAND AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE, GET BACK TO THE BASE LINE OR GET UP TO THE SERVICE LINE!

SLIDE 21

Tennis Clinics (Ray Yost)

21

— All classes will encompass lots of hitting and work on ground

strokes, net play, and serve and serve return. With all drills proper doubles movement is worked on.

— > Each Clinic is for 1 hr. for 3 consecutive weeks. — > Cost is $35 for the 3 week session. — > I will only take 3 or 4 players per clinic, so as soon as a class is

filled, I am sorry but I will then have to offer another time. If you have your own group that you would like to keep together, please let me know. and that may be done.

— > Whenever possible I will offer a make up class if you need to miss

any.
