ITS - Existing challenges

 Too many local solutions — and no nation- wide system  No way to combine existing ITS solutions  Vehicle detection and identification is not 100% precise  Lack of fully automatic functions  Solutions can't be installed anywhere, or they distort the architectural outlook

General concepts

Innovative and unique solution for traffic control:

RFID-based technologies

multifunctional platform for traffic regulation

comprehensive traffic control both in the streets and on highways

free-flow real-time road toll collection And, ultimately, control over road usage

Main features

  • Minimum (or no) optical equipment
  • Single package with multifunctional units
  • Vehicle detection regardless of traffic density and weather

conditions

  • 100% reliable vehicle identification (ISO 18 000 (03;06)

protocols)

  • Exact location and timing of each passing vehicle
  • Measurement of vehicle movement parameters, such as

direction and speed

  • Low-cost installation and maintenance

Integral parts 1/4

Electronic License Plate

 Is used alongside with standard state-issued license

plates

 Contains an embedded RFID-module for detection

and identification

 Sends signals to be received by a devoted reader

Integral parts 2/4

Is placed under the surface of the road No arches or over-the-road constructions needed Reads identification data

  • f the vehicle stored in the

electronic license plate Operates in HF-band (complies with ISO-18000-03) Completely safe for both people and animals Underground induction reader

 Looks like an ordinary road sign post  Reads identification data of the vehicle stored in the electronic license plate  Operates in UHF-band (complies with ISO–18000-06 standard)  Also measures vehicle speed while identifying them, using the built-in Doppler radar RF Doppler reader

Integral parts 3/4

 Are placed at key points

  • f the road network (junctions)

 Provide for unlimited

scalability of the system (junction → block → district → city → county → ...)

 Immediately affect the current road situation by tailoring

traffic lights in adaptive mode

 Accumulate, process, store and share traffic data for

futher use

Proposed effects

  • Economic

minimized driving costs and time losses

  • Social

lower emotional and psychological pressure on drivers increased people's mobility

  • Political

improved image of local authorities

  • Ecological

drop in carbon and other harmful emissions decreased fuel consumption

Control over Road Usage

Getting road usage under control allows to do the following:

optimize traffic by utilising multiple vehicle detectors and speed readers to collect statistical data encourage drivers to use their vehicles rationally in order to relieve the roads increase road capacity by preventing gridlocks and traffic jams promote widespread use of public transport make road usage more enabling by providing additional services

Control over Road Usage — Examples 1/2

Different lanes may incur different driving costs depending on the traffic situation, or e.g. time of the day/day of the week. Driving costs are not set and are calculated automatically each time based on actual traffic intensity: the more there are vehicles

  • n the road, the higher the cost.

1 (green) - Low driving cost 2 (yellow) - Medium driving cost 3 (red) - High driving cost A - Public transport only, extra high driving cost for personal vehicles

slide-15

Thus, bypasses and out-of-the- city freeways or belt highways will be cheaper than downtown avenues, especially for transit transport.

Control over Road Usage — Examples 2/2

The driving cost system may also be used to reroute traffic in

  • rder to relieve central roads and small streets.

Conclusions

 UTP ElecTraCop is a single solution for ITS-related issues, which can be easilty expanded on greater areas, ultimately, a country  Its multifunctional approach allows it to replace the majority

  • f existing separate ITS solutions

 Innovative use of RFID provides for 100% precise vehicle detection and identification  All functions are fully automated — no human involvement needed  The bulk of the system is installed under the road surface, which keeps it safe and does not distort the architectural
