The City plans to use approximately $22 million of Penny for Pinellas funds to rebuild this and other bridges in the near future. The Federal Department of Transportation (FDOT) has identified this Project for funding

  • August 2017 – City found extensive corrosion in main span when performing concrete repairs, bridge

closed, emergency diversion installed to safely divert two lanes of traffic from damaged areas

  • November 2017 – City issued Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for Architectural/Engineering (A/E) firm

(RFQ issued via CCNA Process per Florida Statutes)

  • January 2018 – City selected Cardno as A/E firm
  • March 2018 – City Council approval of A/E firm and start of website, interim improvements phase
  • May 2018 – 40thavenuebridge.com website launched
  • June 2018 – Bridge closed for interim improvements to traffic flow, City Council approves start of

bridge design report and permitting process

  • October 2018 – City Authorizes Final Design Services
