- Help keep your options open in the future
Don’ts
Don’t Choose subjects because...

Parents and Family Know you best of all as a
- person. Ask their
advice Other Students already doing the course can give you valuable insights Head of Year Understands your all-round school situation Form Tutor Knows you quite well, having seen you develop socially and academically this year Subject Staff Can provide a true picture of your subject ability
The current Year 9 will be the second year group to be assessed and graded using the new National Curriculum Number Bands which will replace the letter grades. Your child has already been given bands as targets since Year 7 and these are the nationally expected bands to achieve at least 3 levels of progress from KS2. Broadly the same proportion of pupils will achieve a grade 4 and above as those who currently achieve a grade C at GCSE; the same proportion of pupils will achieve a grade 7 and above as achieve an A and above. The bottom of grade 1 will be aligned with the bottom of grade G. The current end of Year 11 targets show what your child’s chances are of achieving that grade. We would advise the subject choice is matched to the target grade where possible for best success at GCSE.
