- A Curriculum suite that focusses on developing
a well rounded student who is well equipped to face the challenges of life in the 21st Century

for the diverse needs of our students – there are many different and flexible ways to achieve entry into post Secondary training and work placements

Compulsory subjects in Year 9
English Maths Science Humanities & Social Sciences (HASS) Streams – Extension, General or Foundation classes Streaming is applied up to and including Year 10 Foundation classes may simply run as smaller General classes depending on the academic need

Health and Physical Education Wellbeing Christian Education
SLIDE 6 Year 9 Students will study a combination
- f subjects that are aligned with either the
Australian Curriculum or the current Curriculum Framework. Currently, Phase 1 subjects are implemented at Lake Joondalup Baptist
- College. Phase 2 and 3 will be
implemented over 2017 and 2018, meeting the deadline for full implementation of Australian Curriculum in 2018. Languages will take a little longer.
SLIDE 7 WACE 2016 onwards … At LJBC, subjects in Lower Secondary are designed to prepare students for the new Australian Curriculum aligned courses that were implemented for Year 11 and Year 12 to meet WACE requirements from 2016

Year 9 Health & Physical Education and Wellbeing – compulsory components
All students will participate in the subject, Health and Physical Education as well as a compulsory Wellbeing Program in Year 9. The subject , Health & Physical Education and the Wellbeing Program aim to provide the knowledge and skills for students to pursue healthy lifestyle choices and decisions.

Choice of three from four Learning Areas Electives are designed to ensure that there are options that will lead to a wide variety of pathways through Year 10 and 11.

- We expect that students will enrol in an elective
subject for the full year
- Students will be permitted to change out of an
elective mid-way through the year only if there are serious mitigating circumstances and only if there are available places in the alternative subject
- Students in Year 9 may change electives in Year 10
- All electives do prepare students for Senior

Year 9 Health & Physical Education Electives
Specialised Physical Education This subject provides knowledge and skills for students to engage in sport and recreation activities.

- utdoor activities, to build interpersonal and
leadership skills and to understand and apply safety in indoor and outdoor activities.

Future Problem Solvers

For Year 9 students, this is an international education program that focusses on the development of critical, creative and futuristic thinking skills. It challenges students to apply their imagination and thinking skills to some of the most significant issues facing the world today.

Year 9 Languages
Japanese Students will develop a better understanding of Japanese people and their culture and feel encouraged in their attempts to speak, listen, read and write in Japanese. French Students will develop a better understanding of the use of French language, Francophone culture and its people through the appropriate context of informal and formal language.

- Year 9 Japanese or French is a prerequisite to continue with a
Language in Year 10
- Taking a Language in Year 12 provides an additional bonus for
university entry – LOTE (Languages other than English) bonus.
