As parents what can we do?
- Know the teachers — and what they're looking for.
- Set up a homework-friendly area.
- Schedule a regular study time.
- Help your child make a plan.
- Keep distractions to a minimum
- Make sure your child does their own work.
- Be a motivator and monitor.
- Set a good example.
- Praise their work and efforts.
- If there are continuing problems with homework,
get help.
SHORT TERM vs LONG TERM MEMORY
The aim of revision is to help move info from short term memory which can only hold a short amount, into your long term memory which can hold much more.
GCSE exams will require more info than they can store in their short term! THIS TAKES TIME!
Revision is a process that needs to be:
- active
- repetitive
- focused
