About ext xternal assessment

  • In the new system, the assessment program for all General subjects

will include external assessment that is:

  • common to all schools
  • administered under the same conditions, at the same time and on the

same day

  • developed and marked by the QCAA according to a commonly applied

How els lse will ill these changes affect students at Mir irani i SHS?

  • All students must keep a record of all classwork and homework (Yr 10, 11 & 12

academic integrity)

  • Year 11 is critical! Students develop the skills and knowledge to apply in Yr 12. By

QCAA policy teachers can only give very limited feedback on assessment in Yr 12

  • Students who miss a Yr 12 assessment will receive no credit for that subject
  • Yr 12 students must get a “MEDICAL REPORT” in the QCAA format if they are sick for

assessment

  • BABY TIME (It’s only school) is over. Student MUST have developed independent

study skills and responsibility by the start of Year 11!

IT will not be possible to change/swap subjects in SENIOR. CORRECT SUBJECT SELECTION IN YEAR 10 IS CRITICAL

Today’s Learning Goals

Teaching Sequence

  • TEACHING SEQUENCE FOR A HIGHER ORDER THINKING SKILL - JUSTIFYING
  • Tag the cognitive skill eg JUSTIFY
  • Introduce words in the same family eg justification, justifiable, unjustifiable, unjustifiable, justifying, etc
  • It is an important skill because it is often the difference between an A and a C – students do not give

reasons for their answers.

  • Show students a REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE of the cognition
  • Show students the KEY TASK WORDS (see ‘How to Write What You Want to Say)’ or QUESTION STEMS

FOR TEACHERS (see Pat’s Posters) that indicate that students will need to justify their responses

  • Introduce the FRAYER MODEL this is the tool for developing a deep understanding of the concept of
  • JUSTIFYING. INTRODUCE a student friendly definition of the cognitive verb
  • Present students with an example of a JUSTIFICATION and ask them to deconstruct it using a GRAPHIC

ORGANISER

  • Model a planned paragraph to JUSTIFY (from notes)
  • Model the construction of the paragraph using the appropriate SENTENCE STARTERS and CONNECTIVES
