 If students choose not to stay on at school,

what are the options? Remain on the academic route?

Apply for college (must see Julia Mitchell/ Careers Adviser) Winter Leaver – pupils going into S5 whose 16th birthday is between 1 October and end of February. Exceptional entrant to college. Apply for University (although not common after S5. Students must see PSD teacher)

F.V.C – SCOTS Programme

 Designed to support the transition from school to

college.

 Open to S4 pupils and some S5.  Taster courses offered over the course of a year.  Pupils attend one morning per week.  Pupils will also work towards SQA units in

Enterprise and Employability in school.

Modern Apprenticeship (MA) while still at School.

 Mechanical Engineering based at the Falkirk

The F.A.S.T group

 Open to S5 and S6 pupils who are looking to

enter into a Modern Apprenticeship on leaving school.

 SMART afternoons.  Organised by Miss Kettles, PT DYW  Excellent partnerships with employers.  Fantastic range of support to support our

young people to improve their employability skills, improve their applications/interview skills and an opportunity to network with potential employers.

Every pupil must study the following subjects:

  • English
  • Maths
  • One Modern Language – either French or

Spanish

  • Core RE & Core PE

  • Any subjects can be chosen – there are no restrictions

(‘free choice’)

  • Pupils will study 7 National courses:

English, Maths, French OR Spanish + Any 4 others

S3 into S4 Flexible Curriculum

Involves a small number of our pupils and will be discussed with PSD staff and parents. Only choose Environmental Science if it has been discussed and agreed by Head of House/Mrs Pert prior to options interviews. Only choose Scottish Studies if it has been discussed and agreed by Head of House/Mrs Pert prior to options interviews. Also, Support for Learning will be provided on an individual basis as in BGE (S1 – 3).

  • Every pupil must choose 5 subjects

  • Every pupil must choose 5 subjects
  • Pupils will study at least 4 National Courses
  • Only exception will be those studying 3 Advanced Highers – these

pupils must make an appointment with Mrs Pert following their course choice interview.

  • Pupils will be able to choose some S6 only choices designed to

enhance their experience beyond the academic.

  • Pupils will also have Core RE Core and Core PE on their timetable

throughout S6

  • June 2017 – UCAS packs issued to pupils
  • Early Sept 2017: Tutors allocated to pupils
  • End of Sept 2017: 1st draft of Personal Statement and

Higher Education reports from teachers completed

  • Nov 2017: Pupil application and Tutor references complete
