History of Line 2C

The engagement commenced on 10 November 2014. Public meetings were held on the following dates:

  • 15 March 2016
  • 19 March 2017

The environmental studies were completed in 2015. A traffic impact assessment was completed in 2017. The promulgation of Simon Vermooten Road and the Mamelodi section of Line 2C was completed in June 2016.

Summary of findings The diversion to alternative lower-order roads is already taking place.

  • Lane acquisition
  • This results in a large unserved demand along January

Masilela Drive and Lynnwood Road that cannot practically be accommodated on alternative routes.

  • There is gross oversaturation at several key intersections

along diversion routes on alternative routes.

  • Lane acquisition is not feasible and, therefore, is not

recommended.

  • Lane addition is recommended.
  • Minor road network upgrades are recommended.
