Patients Participation Group (PPG )

A successful Patient Participation Group is a partnership between a GP practice and its patients The group should meet regularly with practice leaders and GP’s. The group discusses matters relevant to the practice as well as local and other health issues

What is a PPG ?

Each PPG is unique: evolving to meet local needs . PPG’s work with the practice to:-

  • Offer a patient perspectives on the services

provided by the practice

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement to

the service

  • Fosters good communication between the

practice and its patients Provide practical support to implement change

  • Building a relationship between the

practice and its patients

  • Breaking down the barriers between the

practice and patients

  • Sharing information

  • Self –organised and patient led
  • Able to have an open dialogue with the

  • Confident in its ability to challenge the

  • A time consuming activity for practice staff

  • Plan services jointly with patients

How do I join?

All patients registered with a practice are eligible to be a member So, if you are interested simply complete the PPG joiner form at the end of this meeting .

For several years the PPG worked with the practice

  • On practical issues related to the service

for patients

  • Assisting with quality issues e.g.- Patient

surveys

  • Developing the garden group

Last two years

With help from the Southwark Clinical Commissioning PPG “Network Training we have used their TOP TIPS for PPG’S to develop a strategy for the Melbourne Grove PPG .

Objectives

  • An agreed Agenda for the meetings with

feedback from the practice and from Southwark CCG meetings .

  • Ground rules for the meetings .

  • Worked with the practice manager on

Health Centre on the Dulwich Hospital site

  • Promoting the Park and Run initiative.

Encouraging patients to join and get fit
