PROJECTED ENROLLMENT FOR 2020-2021: Approximately 2050
550 will be Freshmen
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Earn 24 credits as follows:
- 4 English
- 4 Math (Including Algebra 1 and Geometry)
- 3 Science (Including Biology)
- 3 Social Studies (World History, US History, US Gov/Economics)
- 1 HOPE
- Fine Arts/Practical Art with Artistic Content
- 8 Electives
- Complete at least 1 online class
- Unweighted cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
- Pass required state assessments

CAMBRIDGE AICE INFORMATION
- AICE (Advanced International Certificate of
Education) is affiliated with Cambridge University.
- Exams in 7 AICE courses need to be passed within a
25 month period to earn the AICE Diploma
- Students are able to retake AICE Exams (unlike AP
and IB Exams).
- An AICE Diploma, plus 100 hours of community
service, earns a student the highest level of the Bright Futures Scholarship, which covers 100% of tuition at any Florida public university (plus a stipend for books).
- College credit is earned for each AICE Exam
passed.
- Dual-Enrollment and Advanced Placement courses
can be taken in conjunction with AICE courses.
- Students can select AICE courses according to their
- strengths. The only mandatory course is AICE
Global Perspectives, which can be taken their junior or senior year.
- A counselor and an AICE coordinator are assigned
to each student to assist through the process of meeting the AICE Diploma requirements.
HOPE WAIVERS
A student can waive the HOPE requirement in one of two ways:
- 1. Participate in two seasons of an interscholastic sport at the
junior varsity or varsity level. OR
- 2. Complete two years of JROTC. This will waive the full credit in
HOPE and the full credit in Fine Arts. * Once a student meets the requirements for a HOPE waiver, he or she will need to request a waiver form from his/her school counselor.

All students must earn a Fine Arts/Practical Arts with Artistic Content credit for graduation. Courses that satisfy the Fine Art requirement at PHS include:
ONLINE COURSE REQUIREMENT
- An online course is required for graduation.
- Students will create an account on FLVS and
select a course.
- If the student is still enrolled at a middle school
when requesting a course on FLVS, the middle school counselor will need to approve the course.
- After completing 8th grade, the student will need
to change the physical school on the FLVS student profile to PHS to have the grade to be sent directly to the high school.

STANDARDIZED ASSESSMENTS
Students must earn a LEVEL 3 or higher to be eligible for a standard high school diploma.
- Grade 10 ELA Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) –This is required for
graduation.
- Algebra 1 End of Course (EOC) Assessment –This is required for graduation
and is 30% of the student’s final grade. END OF COURSE (EOC) ASSESSMENTS EOC’S are calculated as 30% of the final grade of the course in the following subject areas:
- Algebra 1, Biology, Geometry, and US History

- Sample forms are located on page 8 of your Curriculum Guide. Guides
are available on our website or at your middle school.
- Use ink and press down firmly to ensure the second copy is readable.
- Complete the top portion of the request form. PLEASE PRINT!
- Sign your Course Request Form.
- Please check mark next to the academic course you are eligible to
take.
- If you do not meet the prerequisite, you will be placed into the most
appropriate class based on your grade and test score.

CHOOSING YOUR ELECTIVES
- Underneath the core academic courses, rank your electives from 1 - 6.
- Carefully select elective courses. It is possible to get your 6th choice
- ver your 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th. Please make sure you will be happy with
any course or combination of courses listed on your request form.
- Courses with an asterisk (*) require teacher approval. These courses
typically have a prerequisite or require an application.
- Elective course offerings are subject to change based on enrollment.
WHAT IS A PREREQUISITE?
- A courses with a prerequisite means that you
must complete a specific course or earn a minimum grade in previous coursework prior to being permitted to enroll in the class.
- For example, to enroll in Marketing, you must
first successfully complete Digital Information Technology.

ACADEMIC COURSE APPEAL
- Prerequisites are in place to maximize student academic
- success. Careful consideration was taken in designing course
requirements.
- If you or your parents/guardian disagree with placement in a
core class, an academic course appeal meeting with your high school counselor or administrator is required to discuss your concern.
- The Parent Appeal Window for incoming students is May 1st –
May 15th. Please call to schedule your meeting.

Requests for schedule changes will only be considered for the following reasons:
- The student has already earned credit for the course.
- The student has failed to meet the prerequisite for the course.
- The student is scheduled for too many or not enough courses.
- There was a clerical error.
SCHEDULE CHANGES

- If a student has been unsuccessful in a course, he or she
will not be scheduled back into that course at PHS.
- Grade forgiveness is available only for earning a C, D, or F
in middle school or a D or F in high school.
- Students may register through Florida Virtual School to
recover a credit (www.flvs.net).
- Students need to obtain approval from their school
counselor before they can begin the online course.
- If the student receives a C or higher on FLVS, the original
failing grade will not be calculated into the student’s GPA but will still appear on the transcript.

CAMBRIDGE AICE ADVANCED PLACEMENT DUAL ENROLLENT (DE)
- AP courses are college-level
courses taught at the high school, culminating in a national AP exam taken in May.
- Required to take the end of year
AP Exam.
- Freshmen are permitted to take
AP Human Geography & AP Computer Science Principles.
- Eligible students may enroll
in State College of Florida (SCF) courses or University of South Florida (USF) courses.
- Credits are earned and
included in both the high school and college GPA.
- Grades earned in dual
enrollment courses become a permanent record on the college transcript.
- DE courses are typically
completed in grades 11-12.
- AICE courses are college-level
courses taught at the high
- school. College credit is awarded
upon successful passing of the Exam.
- Required to take the end of year
AICE Exam.
- AICE summer assignments must
be completed and submitted on the second day of school. Check school website for summer assignments.
- Freshmen are permitted to take
AICE General Paper.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- Q - Can I pick up my schedule before school starts?
- A – No, official schedules will not be given out prior to the first day of school.
- Q – How many community service hours do I need for graduation?
- A – None. However, community service hours my be required for scholarships,
college admissions, and Bright Futures. Please note, hours completed in the summer after your 8th grade can count.
- Q – Do I need a PE Uniform?
- A –Yes. Students will be able to purchase their uniform from their PE Coach.

- A –Yes, this is for the safety of all students. You will have an opportunity to get
your ID at either LEAP or New Student Orientation. Both events are held in the
