Attendance Not missing lessons ensures that students do not miss key information. Punctuality to school and lessons Arriving on time, with the right equipment is essential and will help with self-directed learning as GCSEs approach.
Year 9 at HGS
Header
Revision Help students develop a revision timetable especially surrounding exam time. Make sure students build in time for rest/relaxation/sports/hobbies. Revision materials can be purchased / information available online.

Header Fun ways to revise…
- WATCH ONLINE VIDEOS: There are lots of videos out there to help you with
things that you don’t understand
- GET ARTY: Making posters or drawing spider diagrams with lots of colourful
pens not only is great fun but has been proved to make you more effective in your revision.
- WATCH FILMS: Watching the film of the book you’re studying can be a great
way of understanding it better and getting a better picture of what’s going on. Or if you’re doing languages you could watch the film in the language that you’re learning . Watch with or without subtitles, depending on how confident you’re feeling.
- GET RECORDING: Listening to your voice back on tape is actually a great way to
go through your notes without just writing them out time and time again.
Header How long should you revise?
- Lots of short periods 30 mins is my
advice.
- Enough time to get into something,
but not too much to be overloaded
- r bored.
- Give yourself breaks and rewards in
between.

Students should be recording in their planners when homework is set on ClassCharts and when it is due.

Communication with school
Header
This is the real key to success for every student, that home and school are clearly and effectively communicating with each other to support each child.
Working in partnership
Header
- Consistency
- Hard work and resilience
- Remain positive
- Effective revision strategies –Don’t cram / exam
technique
- Do not fear failure – learn from mistakes

Header Motivating and encouraging persistence
Being de-motivated
- r overwhelmed at
- times. When this
happens, berating
- r threatening them
will make things worse. Talk about the issues, acknowledge your child’s feelings and help them to prioritise and find a solution.
Header
If they say they’ve got no homework in GCSE subjects they are not telling the truth.
- Be willing to
suggest contacting school; do it if necessary.
Motivating and encouraging persistence
Header
- Getting enough sleep
- Too much revision
- You only give your best
performance if you are feeling good and well rested.
- Revise early = No need to
cram
- Revise well = Confident and
no worry
- Take breaks and have some
fun = Stay sane
Exam stress
Header
- More like an exam; requires careful
preparation.
- Less opportunities to ‘re-do’ or improve.
- Even more important for students not to
miss school during term time.
