  9. Revision Café • It will take place in the dining room every Wednesday and Thursday next half term, from 3.35 to 4.45. • We will publish a timetable telling students when they can get help with different subjects.

  10. What can students expect? • Teachers to help with areas students are finding difficult. • For students who don’t know how to get started, we will have some revision tasks to kick- start their revision. • If a teacher feels a student is struggling they may receive an invitation to the Café so they can get some help. • A timetable of what is on when. • Biscuits!

  11. How students can get the most out of the Café • Start revising early so there is plenty of time to get help. • Have some questions ready so they can get the help they need. • Bring revision resources with them – this might be revision guides, pens, pencils, highlighters, post-it notes, index cards etc. • Use the Café as a place to get some revision done where there will be help at hand. • Come with friends – working together and helping each other is a really effective way to revise.

  12. Home Learning School will: • Set all homework on ePraise; • Set a range of types of home learning (Knowledge consolidation; Skills development; Pre-learning / Research; Post-learning; Formative; Summative); • Monitor the expectation to make ongoing revision notes to consolidate understanding through related lesson exercises/tests. Students with poor progress as a result of a lack of home learning effort will be followed up.

  13. Home Learning Students will: • Check ePraise to access home learning set and any required resources; • Complete home learning to the best of their ability; • Record on ePraise when tasks have been completed; • Catch up on all missed lesson and home learning; • Make ongoing revision notes to consolidate their understanding, along with other home learning types by the date due. Parents will: • Provide an appropriate home learning environment • Use ePraise to monitor home learning set and its completion • Support their child in developing the skills of responsibility, resourcefulness, reasoning, reflectiveness and resilience in relation to home learning.

  14. What can you do to help support your child? • Provide them with a comfortable working environment free from distractions • Encourage them to complete all homework fully and if they don’t have homework use their subject study/revision guides to make notes related to recent lessons. Actively learn content. • Encourage them to plan their revision and prepare thoroughly for exams • Encourage them to take plenty of exercise, eat healthily and drink plenty of water • If they find it helpful offer to test them and encourage them to explain what they are learning to you • Keep an eye on internet use – there are some great online resources but the internet and social media can be a huge distraction too • If they are unsure encourage them to talk to their teachers – most are happy to be contacted by email

  15. What can you do to help support your child? Above all – be in control, take the flak: Phone/Tablet/Laptop/Internet Going Out Time in front of the TV Sleep Check with school first – don’t believe everything you’re told!
