On 7 April 2019 Sector San Juan IMD received notification of a 44’ catamaran
that grounded on the Island of Mona.
At the time of reporting it was reported that the vessel had the potential of 50
gallons of fuel remaining on board, along with lube oil in the engines. (approx- 10 gallons)
08 April, a Notice of Federal Interest was issued to
vessel owner.
Owner was afforded the opportunity to salvage the
vessel.
11 April, a Notice of Federal Assumption was issued. A meeting was held at Sector San Juan with NOAA,
EPA, and DRNA to discuss response options and concerns.
Emergency Consultation for Endangered Species and
Essential Fish Habitat document completed.
Main areas of concern were endangered corals and
turtles.
