Our Objective
The objective of LMYC’s Women’s Sailing Adventure is to give women with little-to-no sailing experience a fun and safe introduction to the sport. For our returning ladies this is an opportunity to learn a new position, hone your skills and share what you have learned with your new team members. You will also be given the
- pportunity to experience the physical and mental
challenges sailing can provide. You will learn the value
- f working together as a team while making new
friends.
SLIDE 6
How We Make This Possible
What makes this program possible are the individual boat owners who have graciously volunteered their boats and time so you can be given this opportunity to experience the joy of sailing, and the competitive nature of sailboat racing (or cruising after the course).
SLIDE 7
Our emphasis is to keep you safe on the water and teach you best practices of working as a sailing
- team. We want you to enjoy the beauty of sailing
but learn a new skill in a safe and fun environment. As a courtesy we ask they you put all electronic devices below in your bag until after our time on the water.
SLIDE 8
What to expect during the course
- Tonight we will get together as a group and enjoy some
beverages and snacks to kick off our adventure, meet some new friends
- Next week we will have 4 onshore modules that will go
through the main parts of a boat, positions on a boat and where to place weight, points of sail and right of way and sail trim
SLIDE 9
- The remaining nights will be on the water. We want each
crew to try each position on the boat including the helm (driving the boat). The first night on the water each boat will practice a “woman overboard drill”
- Thursday June 22 we will have a practice race
- Saturday June 24 we will host our regatta (you can bring
friends and family to the BBQ/watch)

Gear Required For The Course
- It is recommended to bring a light jacket to shield you from
the wind / light rain if the weather should change on us
- Wear comfortable clothes that you can easily maneuver in
- We recommend you remove your jewelry to prevent injuries
- r loss
- Life jackets are mandatory at all times on the water
SLIDE 11
Beverages and Snacks
- We encourage socialization after our time on the water. You
are welcome to bring your own snacks and beverages to be enjoyed once you return to the dock.
- The clubhouse will be open after each on-the-water session,
the WSA committee will be available after each session for an open discussion and Q & A.

Where will we be sailing?

The Boats
- All of the boats we will be using have a lot of similarities, but
they are different designs, sizes and ratings.
- We will only be using the main sail and head sail – no
spinnaker for this course.
- We welcome anyone looking to continue sailing after the
regatta to contact their boat owner or one of the committee members.
