In March of 2017, the school board approved recommendations for the Gifted and Talented Study. Two of those recommendations included increased attention to:
and beyond at a pace and depth appropriate to the capacity of the K-12 learner
interests of students in and beyond core academics .
Why are we offering these new Pathways? Beginning in 2020, the District will embark upon the Next Generation Science Standards Curriculum Review process. This affords new opportunities to all Edina students in how they experience Science learning in their K12 journey. These standards will be passed into law in May. Both Courses:
Pathway 1 - Depth and Complexity Pathway 2 - Breadth
Covers 3 years of science standards in 3 years Covers 3 years of science standards in 2 years Personalized approach aligned with individual student needs around depth and complexity Personalized approach aligned with individual student needs around pacing and demonstration
Allows time to go deeper into standards with embedded enrichment and review opportunities May require time outside of class to keep up with the pace of the course Incorporates more time for experimentation Incorporates less repetition and less time for experimentation Incorporates math at grade level appropriate math Incorporates math learned in single accelerated math pathways Prepares students to take Physics as a 9th grader (***The Sci course sequence may change with the new standards being finalized in May.) Prepares the student to take Physics as an 8th grader
