“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on

  • life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more

important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company . . . a church . . . a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past . . . we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude . . . I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you . . . we are in charge of

  • ur attitudes.”

Any excuse for non-performance, however valid, softens the character. It is a sedative against one’s own conscience. When a man uses an excuse, he attempts to convince both himself and others that unsatisfactory performance is somehow acceptable. He is-perhaps unconsciously attempting to divert attention from performance; the only thing that counts is his own want for sympathy. The user is dishonest with himself as well as with

  • thers. No matter how good or valid, the excuse never changes performance.

The world measures success in terms of performance alone. No man is remembered in history for what he would have accomplished. History never asks how hard it was to do the job, nor considers the obstacles that had to be

  • vercome. It never measures the handicaps. It counts only one thing-
  • performance. No man ever performed a worthwhile task without

consciously ignoring many a plausible excuse. To use an excuse is a habit. We cannot have both the performance habit and the excuse habit. We all have a supply of excuses. The more we use them the lower become our standards, the poorer our performance. The better we perform, the less plausible our excuses become. Next time you want to defend your sub-performance, say instead (at least to yourself): NO EXCUSES! Notice the startling effect this will have on your own self-respect. You will have recognized your failure. You will have been honest with yourself. You will be

  • ne step closer to the performance habit. You will be a better man for it. We

will be a better team!

2013 FUNDRAISER ANNOUNCEMENT Dear EHS Football Players and Families, As many of you know, each year the Edina High School football team is required to raise funds in order to operate its program. This money helps to pay for equipment, supplies, assistant coaches, team functions, and other miscellaneous costs. Edina Football is teaming up with the MVP Card Company, which has created a product that will provide its users access to hundreds of dollars in discounts at local area Edina merchants. This is the (fifth) year we have sold the MVP Cards and have heard great feedback from the Edina community. The 2013 card is now better than ever… MVP Card Benefits:

  • High Value, Money Saving Coupons
  • Two Continuous Use Cards
  • User Friendly can be used throughout the country
  • Supports 32 Local Merchants – Providing Over 40 Discount Offers
  • EHS Football retains $20 per card. That is an 80% return to Edina Hornet Football!

As in years past, each player is required to purchase fifteen (15) $25 MVP Cards that he will be able to turn around and sell to our community members. If executed as planned, there should be no net out of pocket costs for any family. However, if your family chooses not to participate in the fundraiser, you will have the option of writing a check out to Edina High School Football for $300 to meet your son’s football fundraising requirement. The $300 “opt out” checks must be delivered to Coach Boltmann prior to June 1, 2013. After June 1, 2013 each player/family is responsible for selling 15 cards or $375. MVP cards will be distributed to players on Wednesday, July 17th and Wednesday, July 24th from 5 – 9 PM in the gym at ECC during Hornet Camp. We will need your son to bring a check for $375 (made out to Edina High School Football) on either

  • evening. We will wait until August 31st to cash your check. That gives each player more than a month to sell their 15 cards. Once

all of his cards are sold, we will tear up your check. Also, your son does not have to limit himself to selling only 15! There will be cash awards for the top three sellers in each grade plus each player that sells all 15 cards will receive a special 2012 EHS Football practice T-shirt & shorts. You won’t want to miss out on that! If your son misses the MVP card pick-up, MVP Cards will be available at the High School Athletic office July 29th –August 2nd, 8 AM – 2 PM. We will also conduct an MVP card blitz Saturday, August 17thth, from 2PM – 5PM, so everyone is able to sell their 15 cards - without exception. Collection dates for all card sales proceeds will be announced in August. This is a full TEAM activity and each player is expected to sell their 15 cards as part of their requirement to participate in the Edina football program. We are all in this together. Good luck to each of our players. Thank you in advance for your participation in the MVP Card Program. Looking forward to a GREAT football season in 2013! Coach Boltmann 2013 Captains Parents
