Honors Entrance Criteria

Committee considers the following:

○ ELA: Standard exceeded on CAASPP assessment ○ Reading and comprehending at a 1150 Lexile Level (Ren STAR Assessment) ○ Student demonstrates consistent mastery of grade level standards in ELA and HSS ○ Advanced score on Honors Performance Task ○ Recommendation of honors placement from 5th grade teacher

  • March 17th and 24th at 9:00 am at the District Office ELA ONLY

✘ Sign-up at LVUSD.org

○ (“Departments”...“Educational Services” “Departments”...“GATE/Honors”) ○ Complete Honors Online Parent Referral Form ✘ February 1st, 2018: Deadline for LVUSD SOC permits ✘ May, 2018: Parents receive letter regarding honors placement ✘ August 22nd, 2018: First day of school!

✘ What if my child doesn’t qualify for Honors in 6th grade? ○ Students can be admitted to 7th or 8th grade Honors based on teacher recommendations ✘ Can a student take AP and Honors classes in high school if they are not in the middle school Honors program?

Yes, middle school honors classes are not a prerequisite for any high school course (including honors and AP).

Frequently Asked Questions

✘ Does my child need to requalify each semester for Honors coursework? ○ Students have to maintain a “B” or higher at the semester grading period. ✘ How long is the Honors Performance Task? ○ Each test (HSS and ELA) takes approximately 45 minutes to one hour.
