Community Service Ideas • Place Mats to Go-make mealtime more meaningful for seniors who receive Meals on Wheels by providing colorful place mats with uplifting messages • Friendship Boxes-cheer up a child going through a stressful transition by providing toys and prizes • Bird Buddies- make birdhouses for local nursing home, senior center, or homeless shelter • Personalized Coloring Books-give children something meaningful to do while waiting in an emergency room • Birthday Bags-create birthday bags for children who often don’t get to celebrate their birthday • School kits-give school supplies to children in shelters, refugee camps, etc.

What are the Components? Proposal • Process • Journal Statement of • Reflection Presentation •
Proposal The MYP Project is a project where students choose what they want to do, to show the skills they have developed in the IB Middle Years Program. Students will choose a topic and hopefully enjoy learning about it as they research and develop their chosen service. Must be submitted for approval from advisement teacher
Process Journal complete record of everything students do for their Project from start to finish record all student ideas, planning, discussions, clippings of readings and concepts, diary excerpts whatever students do that is part of the process should be kept in this document reflect changes, doodles, notes in the margin, pictures, ideas, reminders, drawings material samples, etc. need not be neat or well presented, but should be honestly filled in regularly to show students how their project is developing
Statement of Reflection The purpose of the statement of reflection is to clearly explain student learning experiences upon completion of the project.
Presentation The purpose of the presentation is to share student learning and experiences of completing the project. Students will be asked to present during Advisement. Students will need to prepare a 5-10 minute presentation.

Timeline of Events September 2014: The Proposal October 2014: Research and the Action Plan November-December 2014: Taking Action January 2015: Preparing the Statement of Reflection February 2015: Preparing the Presentation March 2015: Sharing the MYP Project April 2015: Submit Community Service Log, Process Journal, and Final Draft of Reflection *All Final MYP Project Grades will go on Quarter 4 Progress Report.
