Wallkill Central School District Guiding Principles
The Wallkill Central School District has developed a hybrid instructional plan that is aligned with NYSDOH/NYSED* guidelines. In addition, parent feedback and research of best practices were considered in the development of the instructional plan. Lastly, the plan addresses the following four (4) guiding principles:
- Ensuring Students and Staff Remain Healthy and Safe
- Maintain Continuity of Learning
- Ensure Access and Equity for All Students
- Effective Communication

Hybrid Instructional Model
In- Person Learning Experience: The in-person learning experience will occur at school with 50% capacity. The learning experience will be standards-based and will include high quality rigorous instructional opportunities and experiences. Remote Learning Experience: The remote learning experience will be done at home and will include meaningful experiences such as independent work, group work, completing online modules/tasks, viewing instructional videos, conducting research, or doing projects. The work assigned will be standards-based. Online Learning Experience: The online learning experience will be done remotely at home and will primarily be live instruction online between the teachers and the students. The online learning experience will be standards-based and will include high quality rigorous instructional opportunities and experiences.
Wallkill Central School District Grades K-12 Hybrid Instructional Model In-person (50% capacity), Online, Remote Learning I. K-12 students will be separated into two groups (Group A and Group B)*. The 2020-2021 School District Calendar approved on April 22, 2020, indicated September 25th as a Teacher Planning Day/K-12 Early Release. Please note, the Teacher Planning Day (9/25) may be moved.
Please be advised that for the first week of school students will be on a 2-hour delay schedule. Teachers will be on a regular schedule.
Attendance Procedures for Hybrid Instructional Model
Attendance will be taken daily and procedures will be established for in- person, remote and online learning. They will be communicated home to parents.
Grading Procedures for Hybrid Instructional Model
Teachers will provide students with feedback on academic work and will provide numerical grades and/or letter grades depending on the grade level the student is in. Progress reports and report cards will be completed and sent to parents/guardians as per the Report Card/Quarter Schedule.
Next xt Steps:
- Principals will place students in groups and inform you of your child’s group in August as well as inform
you of the day your child will be attending school the first week of the school in September (25% capacity).
- Building principals will be working with teachers to determine the format of orientations (grades K, 7, 9)
and the September Open Houses. We will inform you of the details once they’ve been determined.
- At this time extra-curricular activities will not begin in September since we still need to establish
protocols.
- Inter-scholastic sports is tentatively scheduled to begin September 21, 2020. The State may delay the
start date depending on the COVID-19 situation.
- The District is in the process of establishing protocols for students that are on remote instruction only.
- The Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) department is collaborating with all BOCES/Private placements to
determine the reopening plan for September. The PPS department and/or BOCES/Private Schools will inform you in August of the plan. The District will transport students accordingly.
- Parochial schools will inform students of their reopening plans. The District will transport students
accordingly.
- CTE students will be informed by BOCES and/or the High School of their schedule in August. The District
will transport students accordingly.
FULL TIM IME DIS ISTANCE LEARNING PLAN
Full Time Distance Learning Plan
The Distance learning plan will be done remotely at home and will consist of daily live interaction between the teachers and students. The online learning experience will be standards- based and will include high quality rigorous instructional

- Our plans were developed collaboratively with teams of teachers at each level (HS,
MS, and Elementary) led by the building principals.
- Teams reviewed student (grades 5-12), parent, and faculty survey data (June 2020)
to identify areas of strengths and challenges with our distance learning plan used for the months of March- June 2020.
- Teachers worked together to update the instructional model so that we improved
upon and strengthened the plan from last year.
Kindergarten- Grade 4 Full Time Distance Learning Essential Elements
The Instructional Delivery Method will be determined by the teacher to ensure that students are provided with regular interaction with the teacher and their peers and that instruction is aligned with the New York State Learning Standards.

Content Specialty Model for Online Learning:
Grades 5 and 6 will continue to plan and deliver instruction via the Content Area Specialty Model that was implemented in the 2019-2020 school year. Students will work with a team of teachers who will each provide instruction in a specific content area ( i.e.: Math, SS, Science). All homeroom teachers will teach English Language Arts. The Instructional Delivery Method will be determined by the teacher to ensure that students are provided with regular interaction with the teacher and their peers and that instruction is aligned with the New York State Learning Standards.

- Teachers in Grades 7-12 will meet daily with students live based on their
scheduled day (X/Y day schedule will be in place).
- Instruction provided will be aligned to NYS Learning Standards and will
include meaningful learning activities such as independent work, group work, online modules or tasks to be completed, instructional videos to view, research that needs to be conducted by the student, and or learning projects.
- Students and parents will be provided with the schedule of content area
teachers that are scheduled on the X and Y days.
- Students will follow their regular Class schedule to access X/Y day Live
sessions with teachers so that there is no conflict with content areas hosting “live” sessions at the same time.
- Office hours will be available for the student to meet with the teacher 1:1 or
in small groups to get assistance. Office hours will also be available for parents to contact teachers as needed.
Special Education Program Full Time Distance Learning Essential Elements
- Special education classes and related services will be scheduled and
provided via distance learning.
- Teachers will work to schedule programming in such a way as to minimize
conflicts and ensure a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE).
- Students will be provided with the necessary instructional and technological
supports to meet their unique needs as per the IEP.
- Special Education teachers, related service providers, and administration
will engage in meaningful parent engagement with regard to the provision
- f services being provided to the student.
- CSE and CPSE meetings will be held “live” via zoom or another district
approved software.
