Why: OSPI requires that Local Education Agency (LEA or the Yakima School District) reopening plan be approved by its governing body and posted on the LEA’s publicly available website prior to the opening of school. What: There are three major required sections, with 21 Topic Areas requiring over 95 plans, procedures and/or processes. How: Each LEA should continue to monitor its reopening plan throughout the year and update as needed. Stage A: All PreK-12 learning is fully remote. However, if the health department allows, we may be able to provide in-person instruction for students with special needs/circumstances and other identified sub-groups. Stage B: Hybrid Learners - Two cohorts of students report to school two days per week and complete all independent work at home online. Traditional Learners: Priority will be given to students with special needs or circumstances. These students attend school each day and have direct instruction with a teacher in each subject. Families can still choose 100% remote learning. Stage C: On-site learning returns to 100% with full schedule. Extra-curricular activities resume in compliance with district activities limitations on crowd/group size, activity type, and health protocols. Families can still choose remote learning. Stage D: On-site learning is 100% with full schedule. Extra-curricular activities resume without restrictions. Families may choose remote learning.
K-5: Students will remain enrolled in their boundary schools but attend school
third-party online curriculum provider. Students will remain enrolled online for at least one semester, or a full year. This is still a public school option without a fee to YSD parents. Attendance is taken and grades are issued. 6-12th: Yakima Online offers middle and high school fully accredited online course curriculum for students who live within the Yakima School District
