Merger

• Two fold purpose-help both schools to field teams and increase our ability to

be competitive

• All mergers need to be approved by the Board of Education and the Wasaren

League

• Current member of the Wasaren League
• Plan to merge all teams in the next school year

Communication

• Primary contact is made through the coach-schedules, practices, cuts, updates,

transportation needs, planned food stops, end of season celebrations

• Special announcements, cancellations, changes through the Athletic Director
• Principal supports policy changes, discipline, Athletic Code of Conduct, BOE

Team Cuts for the Winter

• One of our growing pains was teams with too many players
• Those trying out for winter teams will participate in a skills-based evaluation.

This evaluation will be done at the beginning and end of the season. Both will be shared with parents of team members as well as those cut from teams.

• All players who try out for the teams will be competing against each other for

positions on the team. This is regardless of who the coach is or where the coach comes from.

• Every attempt will be made to include as many players as is feasible to keep

the team going in the event of injury or an unexpected withdrawal

End of Season Celebrations

• Celebrations will be planned in advance with notice to the parents
• Celebrations are intended to be joint efforts
• Rotation of locations
• Any dinner or food preceding the event will not be part of the celebration but

may be a fundraiser for some group at the school.

• Celebrations will focus on teams, awards and school spirit vs the highlights of
• individuals. The exceptions would be something like MVP.

Names, Logos, and Mascots

• No decisions have been made
• Berlin Middle High School is an academic institution.
• Mountaineer Pride still does and always will exist.
• Changes to district logos, mascots and school colors are a change in the way

the sports program operates and will be a BOE decision.

• Individual team choices/preferences do not equal a change in district colors,

mascot or logo.
