  • Dr. Cal Frazier, Dr. John Evans, Dr. Pat

Grippe, and Dr. David Hartenbach, with guidance from former DU Chancellor Dan Ritchie and former Denver Superintendent Jerry Wartgow.

school administrators an alternative path to a professional principal license;

  • 2013 Troops to Principals: To provide military

veterans an avenue to a second career as a public

  • r charter school principal; and
  • 2015 Dr. Cal Frazier Teacher Fellow: To provide

senior military an avenue to a career as a teacher.

Taking Troops to Teacher one step further

  • SLA Works with the Department of Defense “Troops to

Teachers” for military personnel interested in beginning a second career in public education as a teacher; and

  • SLA recruits nationally on and off military bases

building a pool of qualified Fellows.

Profile of a Frazier Fellow

  • Two master degrees: one in content area

(STEM) and one in administration;

  • Years of teaching in an occupation specialty;
  • Some are West Point, Naval, and Air Force

Academy or NCO faculty;

  • High level of senior leadership experience in an
  • ccupation specialty requiring the use STEM

skills in high stake situations; and

  • Desire to continue 2nd career in service to their

country in K-12 teaching and education leadership.

  • Each Fellow’s program is designed to fit their graduate

education and military experiences;

  • Each Fellow works paired with experienced teaching faculty

advisors, coaches and mentors with military experiences;

  • Each Fellow completes course work within a cohort of other

Fellows in a classroom setting; (Principal’s program uses high tech classroom facilities at UNC Center Colorado Springs or TESLA Center District 11.)

  • Each Fellow completes a unique portfolio at the end of their

year of teaching with artifacts, reflections and self- evaluation, and demonstrated collaboration skills that is reviewed by SLA faculty, coaches and mentors, demonstrating they meet the Colorado Teacher Quality Standards.
