District Safety & Security Review

Phase One (Mar-Apr) Facility analysis to determine perceived level of safety and security concerns among stakeholders (e.g. parents, students and staff) Phase Two (Apr-Sept) Phase Three (May-Sept) Formal security audits to identify vulnerabilities and threats to students, staff, schools and facilities Reestablish Safety and Security team to review emergency plans, safety audits, and make recommendations on safety and security improvements.

District Safety & Security Committee Recommendations

Phase One (Mar-Apr) To better prepare, protect and respond to emergencies, CISD should:

  • 1. Make sure all main entrances have a security vestibule that funnels all visitors through

the main office prior to having access into the school

  • 2. Identify limited designated points of entry for staff
  • 3. Review of current electronic and manual visitor/volunteer sign-in process
  • 4. Equip all classrooms with doors that can be locked from the inside or require all doors to

be locked at all times

  • 5. Review camera technology and coverage of all parking lots and front of district buildings
  • 6. Ensure every room has both an SRP poster and evacuation map posted

Phase One (Mar-Apr) To better prepare, protect and respond to emergencies, CISD should:

  • 7. Number all exterior doors for easy identification by emergency response teams
  • 8. Increase drug dog visits throughout the year at secondary campuses
  • 9. Increase lockdown drills to 5 per year ( Aug, Oct, Dec, Feb, Mar)
  • 10. Require identification badges for all students in grades 6-12
  • 11. Implement parent involvement programs such as Watch D.O.G. at all campuses
  • 12. Complete annual safety and security audits
  • 13. Identify campus safety and security teams
  • 14. Provide evacuation chair training for staff

  • 15. Increase mental health training for staff
  • 16. Hire an additional district-wide crisis counselor
  • 17. Hire a district-wide Health Services Coordinator ( reclassify)
  • 18. Ensure SRO coverage at schools in southern part of the district
  • 19. Hire a Safety & Security Coordinator to coordinate and monitor the safety and security

programs for the district
