BACKGROUND:

• Waterford City and County Council is working to progress

the key infrastructural upgrades necessary to underpin the functional viability and future success of the North Quays.

• The proposed upgrades include the following:
• Sustainable Transport Bridge
• South Plaza
• Consultants Roughan & O’Donovan were appointed to

progress the scheme through the statutory approvals stage.

• Connectivity– historic and future, south & north quay
• Concept– simple, elegant and sympathetic
• Public Amenity– link between Waterford & New Ross Greenways
• Safety and Comfort for users

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

• Public amenity affording greater appreciation and enjoyment of the River Suir
• Provide a simple, elegant and efficient solution
• Convey a reduced perceived length of the bridge
• A 25m opening section to permit river traffic
• Appropriate control location and structure for opening bridge
• Design for pedestrians, cyclists and a courtesy bus
• Wind protection
• Protection bollard on both sides of the river
