Summary Come join us for the Gothenburg Summer Regatta 2017 • We are establishing a premier event that will attract a broad fleet of dinghy sailors from across the Nordic region • Less qualifying races on regional and national level opens for a national dinghy regatta in August • The event will be a two day regatta located in Gothenburg’s northern archipelago, ideal for dinghies (2017 only for optimist) • With the combined forces of RÅSS and BKSS an experienced and sufficiently large organization can be secured • For sponsors we offer the opportunity to be visual and acknowledge to a broad group of direct and indirect customers • For sailors we offer a developing regatta where you will meet, compete and learn from other dinghy sailors in a well organized and high quality event Note: The focus the first year will be on Optimist sailors to be expanded to additional classes year 2 and onwards 2
Vision We are establishing a premier event that will attract a broad fleet of dinghy sailors 1) from across the Nordic region We are establishing a yearly recurring dinghy regatta that: • Will attract a broad dinghy fleet 1) from across the Nordic region • Dinghy sailors will experience as developing – the chance to learn from other experienced sailor's through coaching and lectures – the chance to compete against some the best dinghy sailors in the Nordic region • Will be perceived by sailors, coaches, family and spectators as a professional and high quality event • Will strengthen Gotheburg’s the West Coast’s position as a leading arena for sailing Note: 1) The focus the first year will be on Optimist sailors to be expanded to additional classes year 2 and onwards 3
Background Less qualifying races on regional and national level opens for a national dinghy regatta in August • Less qualifying races in 2017 than previous years and changed directives for children creates an opportunity and a need for a national regatta, especially for optimists • Gothenburg and the West Coast is home for a majority of Sweden’s sailors, but with few other recurring national dinghy regattas • The two organizing clubs, Rådasjöns Segelsällskap (RÅSS) and Björlanda Kile Segelsällskap (BKSS), have vast experience of organizing and hosting large regattas on regional, national, and on international level • With the combined forces of RÅSS and BKSS an experienced and sufficiently large organization can be secured for years to come 4
About the event The event will be a two day regatta located in Gothenburg’s northern archipelago, ideal for dinghies • A two day regatta for optimists 1) with the possibility to practice the two days running up to the regatta • The race area will be located just outside of Björlanda Kile (in the northern archipelago of Gothenburg) with widespread, safe and relatively protected sea Race environment area Björlanda Kile • Björlanda Kile is the largest harbor in northern Race Europe with plenty of space for parking, rigging and office When What launching – allowing for a large number of sailors, 17-18/8 Practice (optional) coaches, family, other spectators Friday 18/8 Registration • There will be plenty of space for event tents for Saturday 19/8 Registration information, marketing, etc. Helmsman meeting Races After race activities Sunday 20/8 Races Price ceremony Note: 1) From 2018 other dinghy classes will be added 5
About the organizers With the combined forces of RÅSS and BKSS an experienced and sufficiently large organization can be secured RÅSS BKSS • Funded in 1965 • Founded in 1940 • ~200 members • ~400 members of which 130 juniors • Located in Helenvik, Rådasjön, 10 km east • Located in Björlanda Kile, Hisingen, north of Gothenburg west of Gothenburg • Focused on dinghy sailing • Organizes sailing schools, training, and regattas for both dinghies and keel boats • Organizes sailing schools, training, and several regattas during the season, both internal for members and external for all dinghy sailors 6
