The Dragons in Venice Invitational regatta,

  • rganized by Compagnia della Vela and Vento

di Venezia, is the brainchild of Klaus Diederichs, Dragon world champion in 2013. For the II Edition, 8 of the world’s top sailors in the Dragon class battled it out in a spectacular team racing regatta. The international event was attended by teams from 7 countries (Belgium, UAE, France, Hong Kong, United Kingdom, Russia and Italy).

Compagnia della Vela Born as a Venetian Yacht Club in 1911, the Club acquired its current name Compagnia della Vela, whose initials

  • CDV - correspond to the motto "Custodi, Domine,Vigilantes". It is a sailing center of excellence that carries on

its activities between the historical venue of Piazza San Marco and the newly built Sport Centre of Excellence on San Giorgio island. A variety of activities and regattas for the members plus the large space for the sailing school are the main activities of the Compagnia della Vela. During the Dragons in Venice Invitational, the CDV was responsible of the logistics and organization on water. www.compagniadellavela.org Vento di Venezia VdV plans, sets up and manages the redevelopment of Certosa Island providing recreational and nautical facilities in Venice lagoon, in a public-private partnership with the City of Venice. Certosa Island is one of the largest of the Lagoon, 24 hectares of natural park strategically located between the harbour entrance and the city centre. Tourism-related facilities include: a Marina with 320 berths, a hotel, bar and restaurant, a boatyard for the construction, maintenance and assistance of any kind of boat and a sailing school organizing lessons, regattas and sport events, both for children and adults. During the Dragons in Venice Invitational, VdV managed the main regatta office, social program and logistics. www.ventodivenezia.it 8
