The name or mantra Rām or the Rān bija has ten characteristics. Rām is that within which all of the Vedas are intertwined. It is: ✦ That within which the mantra Aum resonates; ✦ That which is the supermost support of the entire universe; ✦ The one with Bindu; ✦ That which is intensely expressed; ✦ That which has the most significant energy; ✦ That which has the six secrets told by the Vedas and sages;

✦ The three functions of Brahma, Vishnu, and Rudra and the three shaktis of Saraswati, Lakshmi, and Kali (i.e., the power to create, maintain, and dissolve); ✦ That which is the absolute cause of creation itself; ✦ That within which various types and all levels of activities are manifest; ✦ That Rām or Rān bija is constantly and eternally present and resonating.

The gayatri mantra is accepted by all as the essence of the
  • Vedas. In that mantra, the word, sivt> (Savitaha; “of the sun”)
and ÉRg> (Bhargaha; “that light”) is meditated upon. The light of That Light, the causative factor, is Rām.

In the Skand Purana, it is stated: “Oh, Rām! You are the form of the Universe. All of the names that describe the Universe are indeed your names, and the indestructible seeds of these names are present in your root, bija mantra.”

In the Agastrya Samhita, it is written: “ As it is the illuminating light, the letter ‘R’ is nothing else but the Sun, and in conjunction with the letter ‘M,’ which grants protection, the energy Rām is created. Hence, the Vedas sing the glory of That Shining Being. “I know that Being who is like the light of the Sun and always keeps darkness away. By knowing Him, one can transcend
  • death. There is no other easy way. That great being is Rāma.”
Hence, the bija Rām is the embryo of the Vedas.

The one who is worshipped in the superior and exalted way is pranav. The mantra Om is pranav. The exact meaning of Om is Rām, and the meaning of the Rām bija is Shri Rāmji (the personal, manifested form). In other words, the two are one and the same.
slide-9

Om is formed by the union of A, U, and M. Here, A is Rām, U is Sita, and M is Lakshmana. Similarly, in the bija Rām, formed by R, A, and M, R is Rāma, A is Sita, and M is Lakshmana.

Om is considered to be a six-lettered mantra: A, U, M ≈ Crescent, Bindu, and Nāda (sound) Likewise, the bija Rām is six-lettered: R, A, M ≈ Crescent, Bindu, and Nāda

Yagnyavalkya muni said to Bharadwaj: “Consider Om and Rām as Tarak Brahma. It is worthy of deep practice. One who does japa transcends all worldly misery, all karma, and this ocean of life and death. Hence it is regarded as Tarak (savior).

Rām is the root support of the Universe. The being known as Shri Rām is surely the Lord of all, the inner soul of all living beings and the three worlds. They are His form. He is the great Vishnu and the root support of this entire Universe. He is without despair and disease. He is the source of the complete science leading to bliss and is the form of Ultimate Light.

Om and Rām are one and the same. Lakshmana manifested from ‘ A’ of Om and represents the awake state, or ego. Satrugna manifested from ‘U’ of Om and represents the sleeping state. Bharat manifested from ‘M’ of Om and represents the dream state. The crescent is Rām and represents Turya (samadhi) — beyond the three states. The bindu (dot) is Sitaji and represents the cause of creation, preservation, and dissolution. She is separate and hence is Prakruti.

In the details of the Rām tattwa, the Rām bija is Om. The being Rām is the Lord manifested with all energies. So, just as everything is within Om, Rām is also complete. There is no difference between Rām and Om.

Satyam, Gnyānam, Anantam, Brahma Satyam: That which is the absolute truth. Truth is that which remains the same at all times. It is not modified or changed. Gnyanam: Gnyanam is knowledge, and knowledge is unchanging. Anant: Without beginning or ending, ever always the same (i.e., infinite). Brahma: That which is truth, knowledge, and infinite. Rām has all of the four qualities and is therefore Parabrahman.

It is stated in the hidden texts that Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva are rooted and supported by the ‘R’ of Rām, i.e., creation, maintenance, and dissolution are aspects controlled by the ‘R’ sound of Rām. Also, the three Mother energies — Raudri, Jyeshta, and Vāmā — which emerge from the Bindu, Nāda (sound), and Bija, are based on this ‘R’ sound.

If the word Rām is split, the sound energies of R + Ā + A + M are found. Here, ‘R’ is absolute Rām. Ā, A, and M are Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva and the three Mother energies. So, in the Bija, the Purusha (the great Being, or positive energy) and the negative counterpart, Prakruti (nature), is Sitaji. From these, the 14 worlds are manifested.

Lord Rām is like the fire of the light. In the mantra, the infinite Ā and the seed of fire, R, are uttered simultaneously to sound “Rā.” That fire — the ‘Rā’ of Rām — when combined with the cooling energy of Sita, creates the Universe; or the positive seed letter of the moon, M, and that of the creative fire
  • f Rā, upon union, are creative energies, and the mantra Rām
is produced.

The bija without maya is Parabrahma. This is what gives liberation. The ‘R’ in Rām is the infinite ocean of welfare; the cause of the will itself to create the Universe; the cause of time itself; protector and supporter of all; from whom all jivas have come. The ‘ A’ represents all “remnants” along with the exclusive abilities of Brahma and other forms from the Absolute. The ‘M’ means that the jiva is only for Rām.
slide-21
SLIDE 21

So the relationship between Rām and jiva is like father and son or daughter, protector and protected, whole and part, wife and husband, jiva and Ishwar, master and servant, supporter and supported, served and server . . .
slide-22
SLIDE 22

Rāmaya (“of Rām”) signifies that the jiva is only for Rām. It also indicates the aspects of “truth, bliss, and consciousness.” The door of Lanka closed because of fear of Rām, so all negative attributes are shut off and destroyed by Rām.

The Essence of the Ram Mantra The great sage Yagnyavalkyaji said: “The one who repeats the six-lettered Rām mantra daily and regularly, he becomes purified like gold in the
  • fire. He is also purified by the air, sun, moon, Brahma,
Vishnu, and Rudra. He becomes the knower of Brahma, like the Gods. It is like he is worshipping the Lord with all the fire ceremonies. He has completed hundreds of thousands of japa of puranas and Rudra
  • mantras. He also attains the fruits thereof.
slide-24
SLIDE 24

ram

“He also accomplishes the japa of hundreds of thousands of Gayatri mantras and the benefits thereof. As far as the Pranav (Om), is concerned, it is like he has done billions of
  • japa. He purifies ten generations past and future of his
  • family. He is freed from all karma and is extremely purified
  • forever. He becomes great and attains immortality.”
