NSFAS Distributes Funds to Qualifying Students at Colleges on Behalf of the DHET • In terms of the Policies, Rules and Guidelines as determined by the Minister and the DHET • Accepts and Processes Applications for Bursary from Potentially Qualifying Applicants • Evaluates Applications in Terms of the Laid Down Policies, Rules and Guidelines to Establish Qualifying, Financially Eligible Applicants • Upon Receipt of Registration Data from Institutions establishes the Funding Required per Individual and Distributes Funds To Institutions and to Students Accordingly

WHAT HAS CHANGED Bursary Funding & Standardised Allowances • Straight payment of Bursary • Predefined Allowances simplifies the determination of Funding • No Need for a Legally binding agreement between NSFAS and Recipient • Allows for streamlining of process • Allows Early Distribution of Allowances

  7. INTRODUCING THE ‘ONE STOP FORM’ INCORPORATING: • Application for bursary; • Consent to perform Financial Eligibility test; • Incorporates provision for banking details; • Student acknowledges and accepts the Terms and Conditions the DHET Bursary Scheme; and • Becomes the agreement between student and NSFAS on the award of a bursary THIS REPLACES THE BURSAY APPLICATON FORM AND THE NEED FOR SUBSEQUENT SIGNING OF AN SoP

  18. 1 8 Problems with Data on Registration Templates • Id numbers incorrect • Amounts claimed for tuition is more than the DHET prescription • Allowances claimed was not in line with the 2019 Guidelines • Student duplicated – same student, but with 2 different courses and/or process cycles • Formatting of data – some values would be formatted as numbers and some as text in the same field on the Excel sheet THIS PROCESS OF DATA SUBMISSION WAS FIRST INTRODUCED IN JUNE 2018
