  • The qualification aims to upskill primary school

teachers and give them a nationally recognised and accredited qualification.

Level 5 Certificate in Primary School Physical Education Specialism

  • This is a nationally recognised qualification that

aims to upskill primary school teachers and higher level teaching assistants to improve the overall delivery of the physical education curriculum within primary schools. On successful completion of this qualification, delegates will be able to assist in raising the standards within primary school physical education teaching.

  • Level 5 Certificate in Primary School Physical

Education Specialism is open to teachers, higher level teaching assistants, teaching assistants* and coaches (who assist teachers in their PE teaching)** to assist in raising standards within primary school education.

*Teaching assistants must have extensive experience in supporting teachers across all years and key stages in delivering PE.

**Must have a minimum of five years experience of assisting teachers across

Key Stage 1 and 2. Coaches are required to have a minimum of a Level 2 qualification in any sport they assist the teachers with.

Level 6 Award in Primary School Physical Education Subject Leadership

  • This is a recognised qualification to improve the overall

delivery of the physical education curriculum within primary

  • schools. The aim of this qualification is to upskill primary

school teachers to enable them to lead on the delivery of the primary school physical education curriculum. On successful completion of this qualification, delegates will be able to take subject leadership within primary school physical education teaching and deliver high quality primary school physical education. Level 5 must be completed prior to starting Level 6.

  • Level 6 Award in Primary School Physical Education

Subject Leadership will allow primary school teachers*** to take the lead in delivering sustainable high quality primary school physical education.

***Must be QTS accredited/GTCS accredited.

distinct sessions.

  • Each session will be approximately 7.5

guided learning hours (GLH)

  • One session will therefore be a full day
  • f delivery by the Tutor/Assessor.

  • Learning Activities in sessions 1 to 6 are to be

delivered as part of the Level 6 Award in Primary School Physical Education Subject Leadership.

The Guided Learning Hours (GLH) are as follows:

  • Level 5 – 141 hours which includes 45

tutored hours and 96 independent learning hours.

  • Level 6 – 38 hours which includes 18 tutored

hours and 20 independent learning hours.

  • Each session has a number of Learning Activities that will be

delivered as part of the course and are designed to guide delegates through the learning process.

  • Some sessions will include Learning Activities that are

directly linked to Delegate Assessment Tasks.

  • Delegates may be assessed against the Assessment Criteria

for the qualifications during these sessions.

  • Assessment records and related evidence will be kept by

both the Tutor/Assessor and the delegate.
