What do we need to do to improve?

Improve outcomes for all groups of pupils. Address inconsistencies in teaching Increase the level of challenge for more able pupils Extend writing skills within other subjects such as Science Close performance gaps in other year groups for our disadvantaged pupils.

What had we already done prior to the inspection?

  • Improved writing progress in 2014/15 – increase in progress measure of 34% (from 62% to

96%)

  • Improved % of more able writers reaching level 5 at the end of Key stage 2 (29% in 2014/15)
  • Assessment – new assessment approach and bespoke assessment information for Y5/Y6
  • Intervention strategy – to close the gaps
  • Introduced new approaches for English and Maths – Talk 4 writing and Singapore Maths
  • Extensive CPD for senior leaders, teaching staff and teaching assistants
  • Revised roles and responsibilities of all staff
  • Established strong partnerships with other schools

Improve PDWB by ensuring that:

Pupils show excellent attitudes and are confident to develop their own learning.

Promote independent learning of all our pupils – e.g. completing homework tasks, reading a range of books and supplementing their learning. The ‘Four Bs’ Brain, Buddy, Bits/Bobs and Boss. Excellent behaviour for learning e.g. apply themselves to tasks, good listening skills in lessons, asking searching questions and evaluating their own learning. Motivated to try more challenging tasks – Growth Mindset Good teaching which will enable pupil engagement.
