Overview • Pilot project to reduce the number of trafficked children that go missing and to ensure they are offered the support they need • Home Office and Department for Education support and partial funding • Worked with A&S, Local Authorities and other partners to establish the model and it’s delivery • 3 bed property in North Somerset • Ofsted registered children’s home • Provision is for foreign national children who are potential victims of trafficking and slavery
The Need • In 2017 – nearly 50% of referrals to the NRM were children • 2,121 minors (under 18’s) entered the NRM • 69% of children, who are potentially trafficked, go missing within 72 hours of being placed within social services foster care • Lack of understanding, nationally, about this issue and how to keep children who have experienced slavery, trafficking or exploitation safe.
The Home • Safeguard and care for up to 3 foreign national children • Ofsted Registered Children’s Home (up to 3 children 13+) • Provides a family home with addition of trained staff • High levels of covert security for the property • Initial safeguarding processes • Assistance with NRM process • Therapeutic support and environment • 24/7 staffing
Staff Provision The home is staffed 24 hours a day: • Children's Workers • Case Owner • Clinical Psychologists • Ofsted Registered Manager
Referrals Referrals will be via Social Care Placement Teams, Emergency Duty Team and Service Commissioners • EDT • Protection Orders • CCRAG • DPS Framework • Spot purchasing
