  4. Ofsted Online Survey – out 2pm today 20 providers seen – with support from AoC, HOLEX and AELP . • Many colleges responded quickly and put lots of systems and • support in place. Ofsted saw the digitally enabled colleges, there is still a need for • infrastructure, content and staff mentoring/ CPD. Ofsted found (as did our surveys) that there is variability in • engagement, especially on lower levels. Practical subjects also an issue, though colleges were inventive. • Learners miss face to face contact, and prefer more interactive • sessions where better feedback is possible. 4

Ofsted Online Survey – out 2pm today Confidence and workload is a real issue for staff. • Digital divide a major concern. • Online safeguarding has been well considered. • Supports the need for catch up funding. • Learners prefer live sessions rather than pre-recorded sessions. • Harder for teaching staff to check and develop learners remotely. • Staff who were not as engaged with online learning prior to Covid- • 19 have struggled the most. 5

To ensure that no student or apprentice is left behind, we • need to learn from the authors of our eBook to build a case for: funding to create a national online repository of high- o quality interactive content specifically designed for vocational and skills-based delivery. This will include ‘bite size’ micro -credentialed content endorsed by industry sectors. increased funding to ensure accessibility for all FE o learners to online resources is safeguarded through resilient and reliable connectivity. investment in the development and adoption of new o assessment methodologies designed for secure remote delivery. capital investment ringfenced for the FE digital estate. o supporting sector professionals to augment education o where appropriate utilising digital assistants, automated workflows, data analytics, flexible working and reduced workflow. The digital infrastructure required to support a skills o led recovery. + re-definition of GLH 19
