- A tightly framed floor set above ground on
solid foundations.
- Build to be rodent proof.
- Should be Insulated (recommended by MoF).
- Roof able to bear or shed heavy snow loads.
- A safe and sound wood stove.
- Must include a separate outhouse.
- Have an attractive exterior finish.
- Consider a fire extinguisher and 1st aid kit.

- A treated lumber floor. (rodent proof)
- Insulation to be closed cell board. (rodent proof)
- Use snow load design figures as per RDKB.
- Metal roofing is best for fire and rodent proofing.
- Use lumber, timber or log framing. (no shacks)
- Approved woodstove, chimney through the roof.
- Separate woodshed keeps rats away from cabin.
- Solid, unlocked door and several windows.
- Plan for cabin ventilation.
