  • Program Purpose/Goal:
  • To demonstrate and verify energy efficiency of low temp air source heat

pump in lower ambient temperatures.

  • To show heat pumps can compete with the operating cost of

conventional propane and natural gas units.

  • Participants:
  • EPRI – as research entity
  • Tri-State – as conduit for member system participation
  • Member Homes – as “real-world” application sites

Equ quipment & & Si Site Sel e Selec ection

  • Equipment
  • Options were researched and advantages compared
  • Why Carrier?
  • Operational and application flexibility
  • Site Selection
  • An application process – open to member systems/member owners.
  • Variety was desired:
  • Fuel – replacing propane, natural gas, older heat-pump technology, etc.
  • Climate – mountains, plains, etc.
  • Structural – ranch, tri-level, slab on grade, etc.
  • Five sites were chosen based on real-world applications and challenges.
