There is much talk about the need for business, education and local communities to engage with each another to encourage work-based learning and apprenticeships and to help shape the offer from education to ensure it delivers what learners and businesses need in order to be successful.

Beginnings

Despite this many employers report difficulty finding the right staff with the right skills and the necessary ‘work readiness’. They also struggle to identify and resolve skills issues within their existing workforce.

In response to this challenge, businesses in SW Hertfordshire got together with West Herts College, Oaklands College, Watford Borough council, the Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership and community interest groups to discuss and research possible solutions.

So…

It was agreed that businesses needed to better understand the

ffer from providers of education and how they can influence
provision. Further, there was an appetite for better integration

by businesses in to the community.
