Remember Technology is a Tool

“We have got to move and change the way we think and prepare our students for their future, but it is hard because we are in a people business. We keep doing things the same way because of the passions and/or limitations of our teachers (and our own expectations.)” “There were 68,000 high-paying tech jobs that went unfilled in the U.S. this

  • year. Almost every job we can think of

uses technology. What does this say about how education is preparing students?” “We all want to do what is best for our kids. We want to provide an education that matches their interests while providing the foundation for their future.”

The New Normal

  • Every staff member and student has a Google

  • Many students also use the WiFi accounts for their

cell phones while at school

  • Google Classroom management system (this is not a

parent account but viewable with your student)

  • Parent communication tools:

○ Email and paper copies ○ Voicemail ○ Blackboard ○ Teacher Webpage posting ○ Some teachers use Apps such as Remind 101 ○ Facebook/Twitter ○ NOT through the Google Classroom- that is for teacher/students interface only

WiFi has become a basic need for everyone

Superintendent’s Thoughts

Coding? Technology Careers? How do our current offerings fit into this? We don’t have all of the answers, just a lot of

  • questions. But they are questions we need to keep asking.
