HOW DOES IT WORK ?
- Immersion is teaching in the language, not just teaching
the language
- New language is always presented in context
- Students use the language in meaningful situations
- Teachers deliver comprehensible input: I+1
HOW DOES IT WORK ?
Teachers take advantage of the similarities between L1 & L2 Possible when both are cognate languages
A rectangle …..….. Un rectangle Suppose …..….. Supposer An addition …..….. Une addition History …..….. Histoire Evaluate …..….. Evaluer
HOW DOES IT WORK ?
- We use non-verbal methods for getting the message
across: greater reliance on visual aids, maps, pictures miming, gesturing, drawing, etc.
- Textual materials [ textbooks, worksheets, resources]
have been developed with a DUAL FOCUS approach
HOW DOES IT WORK ?
- Big emphasis on modelling and repetition – students are
required to use the language orally from day 1.
- We have the help of a language assistant and students
have the opportunity to speak to the assistant on a one to one basis at least twice a week.
LANGUAGE PERFECT
- Yearly licence for an online language program for all year 7, 8
& 9 students
- Allows students to practice their language skills in a number
- f different modes
- Allows teachers to put specific vocabulary relevant to each
unit taught on the website
- Allows students to progress at their own rate
