Setting Targets

In The Development Stage (Years 7, 8 and 9) we assess based

  • n ‘mastery level analysis’.

We use a range of information to help establish student targets in the development stage. This includes: Internal Baseline Assessments and external tests in English and Mathematics (GL Assessments). For this cohort, we have been provided with teacher assessments that have been a starting indicator as to your child’s academic performance. At EDA, we review and evaluate our targets annually to ensure we are always setting aspirational yet achievable targets.

slide-26
SLIDE 26

Minimum Percentage Target

Using the information previously discussed, your child will be set a minimum percentage target in each subject (these targets may vary between subjects)

Year 7 Minimum Percentage Target 40% 50% 60% 70% 80% 90%

 Percentage achieved in the latest assessment  Minimum percentage target for each subject  Attitude to learning grade (D, M or E)  Intervention strategy where you child has not

achieved their minimum target percentage

 Your child's reading age in years and months  Your child’s attendance record  Your child’s current number of behaviour points  Your child’s achievement points  Your child’s current punctuality record

SLIDE 49

Detention System (during the school day)

A detention is a form of sanction in which a student is required to remain behind after lessons due to a breach in expectations. These can be set at break time, lunchtime or after school depending upon the severity of the breach in school rules. Detentions during the school day are routine and part of helping a child make positive choices and improve their character. We do not inform parents concerning break and lunch detentions – a student will always have an

  • pportunity to have their lunch and visit the toilet

during a break or lunch.

slide-50
SLIDE 50

Behaviour for Learning: Detention System (outside of the school day)

Occasionally, it may be necessary for a child to attend a detention

  • utside of the school day. You will be informed of a detention,

normally through your child’s planner, with at least 24 hours notice for an after school detention. It is your child’s responsibility to show you their planner. Most afterschool detentions are set by a Senior Leaders as a sanction for more serious behaviour. The timings are 3:15pm- 3:45pm. An escalation of this is an Academy detention which is from 3:15pm-4:15pm. These are supervised by a Senior Leader. Please be advised that there is no bus service for students in detention, or who stay afterschool for extra-curricular activities.

Relationship with Tutor

 By now, each student is now aware what house they are in. There are 10

vertical tutor groups in each house. Most students will have an opportunity to meet their tutor this term, however some staff are joining us from September.

 A tutor is the central member of staff for your child for at least four years.

After Year 10, our current model is students are placed into year based tutor groups. This is to help them at a critical time.

 It is common for a tutor to ring home in relation to any queries/concerns

that they may have. Equally, parents are invited to contact the tutor in relation to minor issues.

 At the start of every week, student’s planners are checked for important

communication and to ensure its effective use. We also require parents to conduct weekly checks, and sign in the appropriate place to confirm. Please also use it as a point of correspondence with the tutor or subject staff.

 Misused/lost planners can be replaced at a cost of £2.50

slide-67
SLIDE 67

Relationship with House Principal

This is so that they can have a positive start to the day. Students at EDA are expected to take responsibility for their own

  • punctuality. Students will be challenged if they are late. Any legitimate

reasons for lateness should be communicated to school reception. If your child is going to be absent, we must be informed of this on each day of absence. Students are expected to achieve 95% attendance as a minimum, with correspondence issued to any student who is failing to meet this target. Unauthorised absence will be followed up on every occasion.
