iPads at SCC - a few things we learned

2015-2016 E-Learning iPad Pilot

iPad Technology was most effective/engaging when:

  • A specific instructional challenge existed
  • Faculty were actively engaged in resolving the instructional challenge through

technology

  • Instructors were full-time faculty members (likely because of the time required to

implement iPads).

slide-9
SLIDE 9

Things to Consider

  • iPads and smartphones do not have easy-to-use keyboards, so if you

are having students write long responses, be aware of that particular challenge

  • Using a new software as a class is more successful when you take

some time to get students used to using them (a low-stakes assignment, for instance).

  • Consider the problem you’re trying to solve - using tech for the fun of it

is not always as fun as you might hope!

  • Technology is technology → Have a back-up plan!
