  2. Introductory Activity Please go to www.socrative.com Select “Student Log In” Enter Room #: SCCELEARNING and click “Join”

  3. Key Features of Socrative Socrative is a multi-platform student response system. Free for instructors and for students (though there is a Pro version) ● ● Students do not need to have accounts to participate ● Works on iOS devices as an app, but also works through a web browser on any device (as long as it’s on the internet) Socrative grades the quizzes for you (for objective questions) ● ● Socrative can display results in real time and will also generate reports

  4. Common Uses for Socrative ● Quizzes (replacing paper tests) Quick “take the temperature” formative assessments ● Exit Ticket ● ● Game (Space Race) ● Review Whatever else you can think of! ●

  5. Demo: Anna Walls Muscle Quizzes: 26 Quizzes (Muscles by Action) UE (Upper Extremity) Origin ● ● Insertion ● Action Innervation ● Demo a Quiz Reports (By Date) can be emailed: Must put grades from the report into Blackboard.

  6. Demo: Beth Budden Versatility - In-class vs at home - student directed vs teacher directed - Online or printed quizzes - Can be used/shared outside of SCC - Easily accessible Variety of question types Meaningful, alternative assignment Demo a Quiz

  7. Demo: Susan Kimel Check current understanding of material. Quiz with immediate feedback. Collect the most often missed questions from the progress report and have a focal review of the material. Competency passage level.

  8. iPads at SCC - a few things we learned 2015-2016 E-Learning iPad Pilot iPad Technology was most effective/engaging when: ● A specific instructional challenge existed ● Faculty were actively engaged in resolving the instructional challenge through technology ● Instructors were full-time faculty members (likely because of the time required to implement iPads).

  9. Things to Consider ● iPads and smartphones do not have easy-to-use keyboards, so if you are having students write long responses, be aware of that particular challenge Using a new software as a class is more successful when you take ● some time to get students used to using them (a low-stakes assignment, for instance). Consider the problem you’re trying to solve - using tech for the fun of it ● is not always as fun as you might hope! ● Technology is technology → Have a back-up plan!
