Socrative - pros • Can have different types of question in same quiz, e.g. multiple choice, short answer • Space race is popular with learners • Can be used with wide range of learners • Easy to create quizzes • Detailed reports save automatically • Quizzes can be shared with other trainers
Socrative - cons • Sometimes drops connection/stops working • No on-screen instructions for users on how to start quiz • Learners have to enter nickname when quiz has already started – takes up “race time” • In Space Race, finishers may become bored when waiting for others to finish • In Space Race, it is discouraging if learner gets a question wrong early on: may lose interest if they think they’re unlikely to win • Maximum of 20 teams in Space Race
Kahoot - pros • Easy for learners to get started with a quiz as all instructions are on big screen • Accessible and fun even for those who are nervous of technology • Team mode gives learners time to discuss a question before countdown timer starts • Easy to create quizzes • Detailed reports save automatically • Kahoots can be shared with other trainers
Kahoot - cons • Sometimes drops connection/stops working • Points for speed of answering question means learners may guess rather than take time to work out correct answer • Even if point scoring is turned off, Kahoot still shows a scoreboard and podium/top scorers • Cannot have different question types in same quiz, e.g. all multiple choice • Some learners may find it childish/patronising • Learners need to be able to see the questions on the big screen • Will not work on Windows IE if security settings set to “high”
