District Level Changes to Blended Learning Initiative

  • Students in grades 7-12 will receive a 64 gigabyte iPad Air2, with two

times the storage and a faster processor compared to previous iPads. Included will be a new charging brick and cord, and a new, more protective case.

  • For grades 7-12 students, the annual textbook rental fee for technology

will be $131.13, which includes the iPad, the case, the charger, and the Apple Care+ 3 year extended warranty.

  • Apple Care+ only applies to students in grades 7-12. Students in grades

pre-K-6 will be utilizing older, used 32 GB iPad 3s

  • Apple Care for education is the phone number to call for any iPad

problems for students in grades 7-12: 800-800-2775, and this number will be on the asset tag on the iPad case.

iPad Policies: Conduct

  • Student code of conduct applies
  • Do not damage or deface the iPad or the case.
  • Stickers and tape are allowed on the case only, as long as content

is school appropriate

  • iPad is subject to inspection at any time by any EACS teacher or

iPad Policies: Apps

  • Pre-loaded apps and content are owned by the school

district and licensed to the iPad

  • Students are permitted to load their own apps, and

should have their own Apple ID

  • Students with Managed Apple ID’s will not be able to

load apps

iPad Policies (Parents)

  • Monitor students at home in the same way you would monitor

the Internet, cellphones, movies, TV, books, and games

  • Read and follow the guidelines in the 


Responsible Use Policies (On district website)

  • Know your student’s passwords and Apple ID
  • Have them show you what they are 


doing in class, specifically in apps such as Showbie or Canvas

iPad Damage and Apple Care+

  • Apple Care+ only applies to students in grades 7-12. Students in grades pre-K-6

will be utilizing older, used iPads.

  • Apple Care+ covers two incidents of accidental damage over the next 3 years, with

a $49 deductible per incident:

  • 1. First break: $49 deductible billed to parents
  • 2. Second break: $49 deductible billed to parents
  • Apple repairs or replaces the iPad within 2-3 days.
  • After two incidents of damage, EACS will issue the student an older, used iPad 4,

and broken screens will go back to being a $100 charge to be repaired.

  • When damaged, students must take the iPad to the school media
  • specialist. Apple will repair or replace the iPad: the student should ask the media

specialist about the iPad’s return after 2-3 days.

iPad: Theft Protection

  • Keep your iPad under your control at all times; do not loan iPad to

anyone, even your best friend

  • Don’t leave it in a car or a bag while at an after school activity
  • You and your parents will be liable for loss for the full amount of $425

($399 for the iPad and $26 for the case)

  • iPads may be locked and data erased when reported missing
  • Once declared lost and locked, iPad may not be usable until it is

returned to school

Loss & Theft

  • Apple Care+ does not cover lost or stolen iPads
  • If lost or stolen, student must contact the school media

specialist or resource officer, and must create a police report

by the end of the next school day

  • Parents will be billed the full amount of $425 ($399 for the

iPad and $26 for the case)

  • East Allen County School's iPads are in the Device

Enrollment Program, which means they cannot be used one stolen

Consequences

  • Students must follow the student Code of Conduct in relation

to online behavior

  • Each building's administrative staff will handle discipline for

behavior in relation to the iPad or computers in school

  • Damage of other student/staff iPads will result in parents/

students being liable for full repair/replacement cost

  • Theft of other student/staff iPads will result in parents/students

being liable for full repair/replacement cost, and subject to prosecution

iPad Policy: AppleCare Plus

  • In event of an incident involving non-warranty repairs, the district

has purchased AppleCare Plus to cover damage up to two (2) incidents over the next three (3) years

  • The coverage does not apply to loss; if lost/stolen, families will be

liable for $425 (iPad and case)

  • Students/Families will be liable for a $49 damage deductible
