Total number of respondents from New Mexico: 204 Respondents represented 26 of 34 EI programs statewide. Thank you to everyone who participated!
Role *Number of Respondents Service Coordinator 102 Service Provider 91 Administrator/Supervisor 39 Training and Technical Assistance Provider 11 State/Lead Agency Representative 8 Family Member/Caregiver 3 Other (DS, OT, SLP, FT, PT SW) 41 Total *295 *Respondents could check “all that apply” to indicate multiple roles.
Key Themes from New Mexico respondents: 1. There is a need statewide for more, better, and on- going training for FSCs. 2. High caseloads interfere with building relationships and coordinating quality services for families. 3. Service Coordination is difficult due to the scarcity of OT, PT and SLP professionals in many areas. 4. Communication among IFSP teams is challenging. **FSCs are seeking more efficient ways to support communication among teams and to manage timelines (such as electronic documentation) **Trans-disciplinary Team meetings, where implemented, have improved communication and adherence to timelines. 5. Service Coordinators should receive better compensation. 6. There’s a need for better promotion of early intervention services/FIT in many areas of the state. FIT Coordinators Listserv 3/22/18
“Questions 18 - 26 below present ideas that were suggested by New Mexico respondents to the National Service Coordination Survey (November 2017) regarding FSC training. Please rate your agreement with each idea on the sliding scale provided.” EI Coordinators responded:
Q19: NM FIT should establish training guidelines and curriculum for local and state levels that are aligned and consistent. Q22: Training for FSCs should include child development. Q21: It would be helpful to have a training rubric for new FSCs with available topics, materials, courses, supports and resources identified. Q25: NM FIT should establish competencies and certification levels for FSCs.
