School Engagement Program - West Gate Kids

School Engagement Program

  • West Gate Kids is the school engagement program of the

West Gate Tunnel Project

  • Targeting schools in Melbourne’s west
  • Created for primary and secondary students aged 10 to

14

  • West Gate Kids links directly to the school curriculum

and promotes the study of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM) subjects.

  • Promotes real-world learning, using challenges from the

projectas a basis for its activities.

  • Sessions are delivered by award winning scientist Dr Lorien

Parker of SciencePlay Kids.

  • Students are immersed in the world of science via a variety
  • f hands-on experiments related to how cities work,

involving electricity circuits, bridges, tunnels and more.

  • To date 776 students have been engaged in 10 schools.
  • By the end of 2019, West Gate Kids expects to have

engaged over 1000 students across 15 primary and secondary schools in the western suburbs.

CLG members are invited to attend a 90-minute West Gate Kids session and watch Dr Loz and the kids in action as they enjoy the ‘Engineering our City’ program at the project Info Centre.

  • Date: Friday 13 September 2019
  • Where: WGTP Info Centre, Yarraville
  • When: 3 sessions are likely - spread throughout the

day – (exact timing TBC) Please note: The date and time are tentative at this stage and are subject to change. Further confirmation and information will be provided once the booking is confirmed.
