  11. Across the globe, education leaders are seeking dramatically improved new competency-based education models to help all of their youth succeed and thrive. Key transformation elements include: 1. Redefining student success and what the profile of a graduate looks like 2. Redesigning teaching and learning to provide learner-centered, personalized learning for each student’s future success 3. Reframing policy elements toward system coherence that aligns with and supports student-centered education 4. Ensuring all students develop mastery of the highest competencies to reach their full potential

  12. This transformation requires rethinking school designs toward new learning models that meet the needs of the whole child (based on research and learning sciences). Key elements needed in new learning models: • Students have agency, or voice and choice in how, when and where they learn. • Students have clear goals and objectives and competency-based progressions built on goal attainment. • Learning environments are flexible and designed around the learner’s needs including staffing, design of spaces, and the allocation of time. • All students are held to the same high expectations , but personalized pathways allow a student to seek learning experiences to meet their needs and goals. • Teachers are the learning engineers , designers, facilitators, coaches, researchers and decision-makers in a system that values learner networks and adaptive leadership styles.

  13. Education leaders around the world are recognizing the need to transform the education system as a whole .
