  16. Choosing the Right High School Classes ● Registration guides can be found on the district website ○ http://www.pickerington.k12.oh.us ● Check with your current teachers who will recommend which level of classes you should take in their specific subject area 16

  17. English Class Options ● English 9 ● Honors English 9 ● College Credit Plus (if student qualifies) 17

Math Class Options ● Algebra 1 ● Geometry (Student has already taken Algebra 1) ● Honors Geometry (Student has already taken Algebra 1 and is interested in extending learning beyond the regular course) ● Algebra 2 (Student has already taken Geometry) ● Honors Algebra 2 (Student has already taken Geometry and is interested in extending learning beyond the regular course ● College Credit Plus Math (if the student qualifies) 18

  21. Health and P.E. Class Options ● Health (Not offered until 10th grade) ● P.E. Options ○ Take it during the school year ○ Take it during the summer ○ Turn in 2 PE Replacement Waiver (Student is required to participate in 2 seasons of OHSAA approved sport or Marching Band) ■ Students who use the PE Waivers must taken and additional .5 electives for a total of 4.5 elective credits to meet graduation requirements. 21

Foreign Language Class Options ● Foreign Language is not a graduation requirement, but most colleges require 2 years of the same foreign language ● American Sign Language 1 is closed to 9th graders ● Students must meet proficiency requirements to move to the next language level ★ Remember the Honors Diploma does require Foreign Language 22

  23. Elective Class Options ● Look at the prerequisites (these can be found in the course guide online) ● Consider your classload ● Always choose the most rigorous classes you can handle 23

Pass/Fail Option ● Students may take up to 1 credit of elective courses in the departments of technology, art, theatre, business, music, service learning pass/fail. ● In addition students may take physical education as pass/fail. ● Courses taken as pass/fail will receive graduation credit and will be counted towards eligibility. To take a class pass/fail must be done within the first few weeks of ● a semester. ● Pass/Fail forms are available in the counseling office To receive credit for a pass/fail course, a student must earn at ● least a D- or 60%. ● A student choosing the letter grade option (A, B, C, D, F) must do so by the end of the course. 24

  25. Repeating a Course ● A student wishing to repeat a class is which he/she has received a passing grade must: ○ See their counselor for a Course Repeat Form ■ The form must include a parent signature 25

  26. College Credit Plus (CCP) ● The College Credit Plus program (CCP) offers qualified high school students on-site access to directly transcripted credit through dual-credit. Students passing CCP classes will receive both high school and college credit for the course at no cost and without taking an exit exam. ● Students may enroll in college courses at their high school buildings, at local college campuses, or online. Classes may be taught by college faculty or Pickerington faculty with proper credentials. 26

  27. College Credit Plus (CCP) ● CCP classes will count for high school credit, with certain classes counting as replacements for courses required for graduation. Check the Registration Guide (link) for specific courses. ● CCP Parent/Student meeting is February 17, at 7pm in the PHSC Performing Arts Center 27

New School Schedule for 2016-2017 ● 7:55 am-2:55pm-School Day ● Each school day will consist of 26 (15 min.) mods ○ The length of each class is indicated on the course registration worksheet ● Lunch will be 2 mods (30 min.) ● Most classes will be 3 mods (45 min.) ● Most AP and lab classes will be 4 mods (60 min.) ● Study Hall will be 1-3 mods (15-45 min.) ● Students are Required to take 5 classes each semester ○ Counselors STRONGLY RECOMMEND taking 6 classes each semester in order to remain eligible for sports/clubs as well as showing rigor for applying to college 28

Important Reminders ● Registration Deadline March 11, 2016 ● If you do not complete your online registration by the deadline or you do not choose enough classes, your counselor will create your schedule or add classes and you will not be permitted to make changes. ● Remember, there is a district schedule change policy. You will find it in the course guide at (link). You will NOT be allowed to drop a class because you change your mind, in an effort to come late or leave early, or to request a teacher change. You will receive a verification of the classes you choose after ● spring break. 30
