u Some 5th grade students will be selected to take a
writing placement test for advancement into Springboard ELA 7.
u This decision will be based on several pieces of
data including 5th grade teacher input, ELA assessments in both reading and writing, and placement testing results.
u Testing will be held at the home elementary
school.

u There will be no placement test for math
advancement this year.
u Decisions regarding advancement in math will be
based on several pieces of data and students may be placed into Math 6, an advanced version

Rolland-Warner Grades 6-7 & Zemmer Grade 8 We will be having a separate year-round night for our incoming year-round students. March 7, 2016 – 6:00-7:30 pm
Athletics & Extra Curricular Activities
All of our clubs are open to both 6th and 7th grade students. 6th grade athletics include: cross country, wrestling, & track & field clubs
7th Grade Athletic Opportunities/Timeframe
Students can only participate in one sport at a time in middle school but may select multiple sports across the school year. Early Fall: starts week of August—end of October girls’ basketball, football, boys’ & girls’ cross country (distance running), & sideline cheer Late Fall: last week in October-winter break volleyball & wrestling Winter: January-March competitive cheer & boys’ basketball Spring: end of March-June boys’ & girls’ track & field, softball, & baseball
Scheduling Timeline
Counselors are currently visiting classrooms. Student Course Request Sheets are due to the teachers by March 10, 2016. Students will be placing their electives in the computers with the technology teachers. If you need to make any changes to your course requests, you can go online or contact: Mrs. Marthen the 6th grade counselor

The Zero hour option is only for students who have scheduled at least 5 cores or 4 cores plus band who want to add another core into their schedule to work ahead. Students taking zero hour classes will take classes before their traditional school day. Students will remain in the class for the entire year – drops will NOT be permitted

Next Steps
Students will turn in their scheduling requests to their designated teacher & enter course requests online. In May or June, 5th grade students will take a field trip to RW for a tour, lunch, and a presentation by 6th grade students. In late August, students will come pick up their schedules, have school photos taken, receive locker info, and tour the building. Any questions/changes regarding schedules should occur at this time as well by meeting with a counselor or leaving a note for a counselor to contact you.
